If you search English Surnames you will find the names fall into seven
common origins, the Surname Cady is listed in six, Arthur is listed in Cady
Genealogy as thinking the name is from Gaelic from the first name Cad-ia. Mr
Arthur wrote his list of surnames in the late 1880;s and new info points to
a connection to the surname Cade (pronounced Kay-dee). But Cade is also
pronounced Ka-id (a french Wine Barrel or nickname for a stout person). The
surname has many spelling variations and is even used for a first name in
Ireland. The Dutch possibly use Kady. In short, it is unlikely we will ever
know its true origin. I even looked into ancient languages, like Gaelic,
Anglo-Saxon, Danish-Viking, Anglo Norman and Greek, The sound "K" in many
was pronounced as in Key, Except the Greek Kappa. Old English did have a
Cae, The spelling Cady was found in 1325 in Suffolk County, England, but
likely exised earlier. This area was settled by Vikings about 890 and Y-DNA
points to a possible connection to them. The surname does not appear in
1086;s census but is on census' on the 1100;s. (So, it likely existed in
another form.
