I do not have much help to offer, My experience is that Upstate New York was not well
organized. Some counties did not start to record vital statistics until 1840. The area was
very new to settlers after the revolution, and many churches were slow to move west. Civil
authority was a Justice of the Peace and I cannot imagine how varied the records were.
Some marriages were what we call Common law and some divorces were by abandonment. The
further west one went the more common marriage was by agreement of the parties. I found a
couple married in 1819 with a son born in 1815.
As Chloe was married before 1820 you have to check several NY Counties. Her religion might
help, but many converted from Congressional and Anglican to Baptist and Methodists. I have
had to look at Shakers and Quakers, too. The best place I can suggest is death records and
wills.
