We believe the surname originated in eastern England, in particular Suffolk after 1089,
but before 1300. The average generation is 20 years. As an example children born between
1600 and 1620 would likely be having Children of their own between 1620 and 1640. This
second generation would have four grandparents and the grandparents double with each
generation, by 10 Generations back 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 264 516 1024 one has as many as
2046 grandparents, in 20 generations one has over one million grandparent s.
England's population was 2 million in 1000 AD and by 1550 was at 4 Million (actually
due to the Black Plague the population was down 20%) Nicholas Cady was born in 1588 and
the population of England was about Six Million, his 20 generation grandparents (1100 AD)
make it so he is related to practically everyone in the British Isles.. Some are likely
related to several individuals more than once.
Some of our grandparents were related to royals and famous persons. As an Example, I
found Edward I Longshanks in one line and William Wallace (Braveheart) in another, .It is
hard to imagine how the family is related to these men. In any case, the fact is some
family lines go quite far back. Sarah Davis and Lois Cleveland are two that have a long
history.
