Nicholas arrived with Winthrop's fleet in 1630. His Master William Knapp and his
future wife Judith Knapp are listed in the first 800 As Winthrop did not list servants or
apprentices, it is likely Nicholas was on board. As an apprentice he was pledged to serve
7 to 14 years learning his craft and two to three years as a journeyman. We know he was
in Watertown in 1643, so he was born about 1619 in Sussex, England. Nicholas was very
close to the Knapp's, like an adopted son.
