Sorry,no one responded. In short, the book Nicholas Cady of Watertown, MA would not be of
much help. It covers a family line out of NEW ENGLAND. The surname is found through out
the British Isles, but likely developed independently. In Ireland, the name means
something like a pleasant sound, in Scotland it might be related to Messanger, in Western
England, it could mean a person from Cadbury. and In Eastern England it is thought to
represent a pet domestic animal. The spelling varies but I assume the pronunciation is
the same. (Ka-dee)
The name arrived in three time frames 1630 New England, 1715-1754 Middle Atlantic states.
and after 1840 the Irish from Maine to Texas. Note New Orleans was the second largest
destination for the Irish. So if checking ship arrivals, keep this in mind. Most large
Libraries have books on arrivals after 1800.
