census of 1850 lists two families in District 45, Preston, Virginia
1 Peter Keady b 1824 and Mark Keady b 1833
2 Marin Keady b 1826
all are in with large numbers of others. I suspect in work gangs, either canals or
railroads likely. I recall Virginia Planters were asked for the use of their slaves in
building the canal. Their reply was NO, slave are worth something, if you need men hire
the Irish, no one cares what happens to them.
I have seen Cady;s in Washington DC from time to time, in my Genealogy research. About 150
Cady/Keady etc arrived between 1840 and 1850. It was difficult and many did not survive.
To my knowledge the name in Ireland was developed differently than England. In sound, has
been more constant than the spelling, but what the sound meant seems to have different
roots.
