So, it seems, no harm done. I find the LDS search site frustrating because
the info (in that file that is supposed to be "official" as opposed to the
databank that anyone can add info to) is not to be trusted as correct, and
the addresses of folks who are listed as contacts are out-of-date.
Thanks for replying.

Sorry, I have no info for you. I am curious, however, as to what a "temple
sealing" is.

There are gardens in Japan that have been tended for generations by
Buddhist monks, as a path to enlightnment. They let everyone -
Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jews, Agnostics - come in. You don't
have to be a Buddhist to admire their work. You can walk along their
path (the gravel one) without converting. It would be ungracious for a
non-Buddhist to spend an hour in quiet contemplation, then make
disparaging remarks about their religion.
I'll leave the parallel situation for you all to draw. Anyone with
familysearch.com at the top of their favorites, or who has borrowed a
microfilm from Salt Lake, should know what I mean.
As a side note, whenever I asked my late grandfather why he didn't go
to church, he'd say he wanted to, but if he did the roof would fall
in, and a lot of innocent people would be killed. If one of his
descendants were to convert to a religion that believed in baptising
dead ancestors, then tried to drag him into its folds posthumously, I
suspect he'd be amused.
There are other places to discuss theology. Please, could this list
stick to genealogy?
Hello list:
While researching my ancestor Andrew Cady I kept coming across Abner Cady. I
am very curious about him and what I discovered in the 1870 and 1880 Federal
Census records.
1. In 1870 I found Abner Cady, age 55 living in Farmington, Tioga County
with a woman whose name I could not decipher but it was similar to Genette
or Giselle, age 28 a housekeeper. She was not listed with a different last
name so it appears the last name was Cady. There was a one year old named
Denton living with them also. I first figured this was a second wife and
their child-however!
2. In 1880 I find him in Hayes, Clare County Michigan living with Curtis
Stewart age 30, Ruth Stewart (his daughter?) age 36 and a 10 year old named
Denton Bailey. I am just very curious if Denton Bailey was his
nepwhew-didn't he (Abner) have a sister that married a Lucius Daley? Did
they move to Illinois? Is Ruth his daughter and that is why he went to
Michigan?
I knew that Abner had made a homestead claim but I did not know it was in
Charlevoix County Michigan. The issue date was 1884. Is it possible he died
in Charlevoix County Michigan?
Hope this helps someone!
Illyce

Hi List:
I have a vexing problem that I am hoping the list will be able to help me
with. I have been working on this for many years and feel I have just about
exhausted the resources at my disposal to find a definitive answer. I
apologize beforehand if this is to long but here goes!
I am intersted in information on a child of Chester and Catherine Baxter
Cady. Her name is Ann Cady and she was born about 1841/42.
I am curious if anyone has any information on her after the 1850 US Federal
Census of Tioga County PA that shows her listed with her parents and
siblings. Specifically;
Is it possible she was a twin?
Did she marry and if so who and where did they reside?
The reason for my interest is as follows:
My ancestor, Andrew Cady, was born 16 May 1841 in Farmington, Tioga County.
He was listed with the household of William and Emma (Cady) Vandeusen in the
1850 Federal Census of Tioga County, age 9. Being that Emma was the sister
of Chester the following is based on the assumption that Andrew is related
to this family group.
Without going into great detail about my research methods I have come up
with three possiblities.
1, Lemuel & Ruth (Gleason) Cady had a late in life baby that was visiting or
living with his sister Emma. Possible but highly unlikely!
2. Abner Cady was his father-they both moved to Michigan about the same time
and homesteaded there. Possible but no other links. I believe he,(Abner),his
wife and two daughters were with Lemuel and Ruth in the 1850 census.
3.Chester and Catherine were his (Andrews) parents: right age, close
proximity geographically to Emma in 1850 and the IGI reference below. It is
possible Andrew was visiting his Aunt on census day-the reason he was not
listed with Chester.
The IGI gives Chester and Catherine Baxter as his parents. This information
is not from civil/church records but a temple sealing.
This is the ONLY recorded reference I have for his parents.
In 1860 Andrew was living in Lawrenceville working as a farmhand. In 1870 he
was married with a two year old daughter living in Brookfield,Tioga County.
By 1880 he was living in Higgins Township, Roscommon County Michigan, the
next county over from where Abner Cady was living.
One more thing. In all records where Andrew is asked where his parents were
born he says Pennsylvania. I am confused about the birthplace of Chester and
Abner Cady. According to some histories of Lemuel he was living in Osceola,
(PA?) at the time of their births. Most show Locke, Cayuga Co. NY as their
birthplaces. Is there a definitive answer?
I really look forward to hearing from anyone with insight, opinions or
comments on my quest. If you prefer you may email me direct at
illycem(a)hotmail.com.
Sincerely,
Illyce Mac Donald

jem,
I just called and talked with Jim and he was very gracious, although very
weak. He said that he still has books for sale, and that he would be happy
to take orders. The info you sent on the cost is still correct.
He also told me that if anyone has any updated material on the Cady family,
he would love to have this information.
Thanks again for your help in getting in touch with him.

Hi,
I'm trying to email Jim Cady, author of two Cady books, but can't get through with the address I had previously. Does anyone have his most recent address or possibly a phone number. (I know this is a question that has been raised before.)
I used JCADY4100(a)aol.com
Thanks,

I just spent a rewarding 2 evenings filling in the family tree with information from John Giles of Victoria B.C. Most important to me was the obituaries from Pelican Rapids, Otter Tail Co. MN.
Haziel E. Cady and his wife Lucetta, born in 1809 and 1811 respectively, in CT. moved from NY to WI in about 1845 and then to MN in about 1870. They stayed in Spring Valley, Fillmore Co. MN until old age when they moved in with (or near) their oldest daughter Mary Elizabeth Cole in Pelican Rapids.
Lucetta died July 3, 1888 and Haziel on Dec. 10, 1891... they are buried with several family members in Lakeview Cemetery.
