Hmm, might this have been the 'Waterman Cady" mentioned in the will of
Timothy Puffer's widow, Mary? I know the census for 1820 shows Timothy and
Mary raising children that are not their own. I am wondering if this
"Waterman Cady" died and left his children for his Aunt and Uncle to raise?
This would explain why they are the only Waterman/Cady children mentioned in
the will. What a mystery to me. June
Mike, thank you so much for clearing that up for me. So, they were cousins.
Now where does Maria Cady who married William Sabin fit in? Berkshire
Historical Society has those published intentions to marry if you care for a
copy. Thanks again.
June
June:
I just found a small piece of information to add to my last post.
I have Lydia Cady as having a brother named William Waterman Cady, b. <1762,
in Dalton, Berkshire, MA
Sorry for leaving it out of the first message.
Mike Curtis
Hello Cady listers!
Regarding June's post about her foremother Elizabeth Cady Puffer, in her
second letter she mentions a Lydia Cady as possibly being a daughter of
Ebenezer and Prudence (Palmer) Cady, and that she intended to marry Josiah
Sabin, possibly in Shaftbury, VT.
I have different information, obtained from LDS Ancestral file and also from
the Sabin Society.
Lydia Cady, b 1760 in Dalton, Berkshire, MA, d. 11 Feb 1849/50 in Howard,
Stueben, MA. Parents were William Cady, b 8 Jun 1729, Plainfield, Windham,
MA., and Lydia Waterman, b 1739, Dalton, Berkshire, MA. She married Josiah
Sabin 22 Jul 1779, Pittsfield, Berkshire, MA.
I hope this information helps.
Also, what is the name of the "CADY" book, who is the author and is it still
available and where?
Thank you,
Mike Curtis, Carson City, NV, researching Curtis, Card, Cady, Sabin to start
with.
To add a little more info I have come up with on this Cady family, it appears
that Ebenezer and Prudence (Palmer) Cady may have had a doughtier named
Lydia. At the same time that Elizabeth announced her intentions to marry
Timothy Puffer, Lydia Cady announced her intentions to marry Josiah Sabin on
11-25-1779. I am not sure if they too married in Shaftbury Vt. But
according to Rev War records, they did marry. Also the Cady book states that
Prudence Palmer married Asa Waterman, Jr. This has been proven to be
incorrect and Rev War records show that Prudence married Daniel Lovejoy.
This makes more sense as David Cady, s/o Ebenezer and Prudence named one of
his children, Daniel Lovejoy Cady, as well as a daughter Prudence and a
daughter Elizabeth. I have also found on a couple of occasions where
Prudence (Palmer) Cady was called "Francis". If anyone else has come across
any this info.....please.....let me know. Many Thanks....June
My Foremother was Elizabeth Cady Puffer. She was bn 1753 probably Coventry,
Conn. She was the d/o Ebenezer and Prudence (Palmer) Cady. She is not found
in the Cady book as one of their children, and I can't document that she is,
but common sense says she is. She announced her intentions to marry Timothy
Puffer in Dalton, Mass. They were married 11-25-1779 in Shaftsbury Vt. Both
events are documented in those places. Children bn in Shaftsbury were my
forefather, Ira John bn 6-19-1780/mar Mary VanWormer d/o Peter and Rachel
(VanHoesen) VanWormer, and 2nd wife was Charity Pangborn d/o Richard and
Catalyntjie (VanEtten) Pangborn. Their 2nd child was Clark bn11-6-1781/mar
Charlotte Frees, widow of John and probably a Howe. Clark and his father
helped to establish the town of Junius, Seneca Co., NY. 3rd child was David
bn 7-29-1783 and mar Sarah Wilbur. They lived in Glenville, Schenectady Co.,
NY and died w/o issue. 4th child was Tammatha bn 9-15-1785 and mar Lemeuel
Bullman, 5th child was Clarissa bn 12-24-1787 and mar Adonijah Chamberlain.
6th child was Elias bn @1789 in Ballston, Saratoga Co., NY. 7th child was
Pamela bn @1792 and mar Pardon Davis. Her full name was probably "Elizabeth
Pamela". 8th child was Arvilla bn @ 1794 and mar Lewis Groat. Another
child, Timothy may have died in infancy. He is mentioned in the Puffer book,
but there has been no evidence found on him.
Timothy Puffer became a doctor and practiced medicine in many counties in NY.
Elizabeth died 5-14-1796 and is buried on the old Puffer Farm in Glenville,
NY. Timothy remarried a woman known only as Mary and they lived in Paris,
Onieda Co., before moving to Junius. Timothy died and left his will which is
recorded in Seneca, CO. He left everything to wife and his children. He died
prob. 3-1827. His widow, Mary died 9-27-1841 in Junius. Her will is recorded
there too. Her executor tried to locate the children of "Waterman Cady" who
was deceased at the time of the execution of her will. I know Elisha and
Ruth (Waterman) Cady had a son named Waterman Cady, and I have always
wondered if this referred to Ruth and her children. Ruth died just prior to
Mary. the executor was unable to locate this family and everything went in
portion to each of Timothy's children mentioned above, as Mary had to living
relatives.
If anyone can add to this I would appreciate hearing from you, and if this
helps anyone, I am glad to have shared. June
I read this one second. Thanks a lot. This is great. Will have to go over this
when I get time. It's just after 2 in the morning, better get to bed.
Thanks,
Shirley

Hi everyone,
In my search for my 3rd-great-grandfather "August" Cady, I was sure I had narrowed him down. There was a Willard Cady as listed in the Cady Genealogy, of Killingly, CT, born July 30, 1762; married Martha Eames March 1790; died April 9, 1795. Willard was listed with two sons, Erastus and Augustus, with no further information on these boys. (The time frame and location would be correct for my August.)
While searching the web today, I came across an informative site at http://pharmacy.isu.edu/~cady/genealogy/surnames.html
(If this belongs to one of our members, I apologize for not remembering--I changed computers lately and lost all my "favorites.") Anyway, this listed Willard, same dates as above, and also Augustus. I was feeling badly when I saw the dates for Augustus--1793 - April 9, 1795. Then I realized the date of death was the same as his father, Willard's. This seems odd unless there was an epidemic or strange accident.
If anyone can share any ideas, I would be very grateful. There was no contact information that I could see on the website, so I am at a loss right now. Thanks,
Suzanne

Good morning all,
I'm checking to see if any of you are having problems with your postings. Please let me know privately if you are. Rootsweb has been sending me rejects lately.

Dear Carol:
Thanks so much. The children you listed are the son of Abel Cady? My Abel
Cady would have been born abt 1750. His daughter Abigail born about 1771.
I saw the date Samuel was born (1810) and thought that was too late for my
Abel.
I have corresponded many times with Agnes Hower Wills and received a lot of
information; however, at the time I suppose she did not have (or just didn't
send) the Cady family information.
Thank again.
Karen

Is everyone aware that PBS will broadcast a Ken Burns special Nov. 7 and
Nov. 8 about the lives of Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth CADY Stanton?
This is important American history for everyone....but especially
pertinent to those who trace their CADY ancestry back to Nicholas Cady.
For example:
my own great-grandfather was a 3rd cousin of Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
You can check your local TV listings as to time your local media will
broadcast.

Dear Lynn:
Thanks so much. Yes, I have all of the Phillips' information. In fact, I
was the one that his past July had a new marker placed in the Amesville
Cemetery in Athens Ohio for Job. It took 2 years. It was obtained through
the VA. I only have photos. I have never been in person, but someday I will.
I did the Phillips' genealogy for my husband, Robert Lee Phillips, 4th great
grandson of Job born in 1741 in RI. I also have a photo of Abigail's
tombstone.
Your information about her father will be a new stepping stone for me.
Thanks!
Karen
