I can't help with the Cadwell families of Iowa but perhaps someone
would be
interested in what I know of much earlier Cadwells in Connecticut.
I have a handwritten genealogy from the 19th century that has been passed
down to me. Having compared it to other Cadwell genealogies I believe it
to
be fairly accurate.
The last person named Cadwell in my family was Theodore (1782-1827). He
married Roxy Parsons (1789-1881). Theodore's father was Theodore
(1756-1837) and his mother was Hulda Case who died around 1786-1788. This
Theodore was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. He married again to a
Connecticut woman named Lucy Gillett. He died in Allegany County, New
York.
I don't know if he had other children by his second wife, but I do know
that
since she got a widow's pension she outlived him.
The previous generations appear to be Mathew (1725-1773) and Elizabeth
Hullard (? - 1775); Thomas III (1689-1759) and Hannah Francis
(1702/03-1759); Thomas, Jr. (1662-1737) and Hannah Butler (1663-1725);
Thomas (bef. 1630-1694) and Elizabeth Stebbins, daughter of Deacon Edward
and Frances.
The original immigrant in this line, Thomas' father, was Walter, born in
1604 in Scotland. He died in 1694. I have nothing on his wife.
All of these people were Hartford folks.
Much of this has not been verified by me, although others have done
research
and it does match up quite well to the genealogy that came down to me from
the family. (Theodore and Roxy's daughter, Esther Harriet, who married a
Henry Butler, had a daughter Helen (Esther and Helen appear to be the
source
of the genealogy) who married Henry "Harry" Blakeslee (1841-1876). Harry
was
my gr-grandfather.
