I am researching my third great grandfather, who was born about 1807 in Hartford, Hartford
County, Conn. His name was Russell Cadwell. His parents were Hezekiah Cadwell 1775-1840
and Mary (Mercy) Marvin, who died in 1842. Russell married Adaline Stuart (Stewart) in
the Methodist Episcopal Church in Rochester, New York, on July 21, 1829. He then had his
only child with her, Russell Marvin Cadwell, 1832 - 1899. Russwll Sr. appears in the 1830
census in Rochester Ward 2, Monroe, New York. According to a family genealogy, he died in
1834 in St. Augustine, Florida, but this has never been proven with any records. One
suggestion has been made that he went to Florida to seek his fortune or to fight in the
Seminole Indian Wars. Other family rumors say that he abandoned his first wife and went on
to have another family. I am looking for a reason why he would have gone to St. Augustine
when his only child was 2 years old and also for proof that we was in St. Augustine -
militar!
y records, death records, burial records, etc. His first wife remarried on Jan. 13,
1836, to Lewis J. Haviland in Rochester, Monroe County, New York and they subsequently
moved to Michigan. I can find no record of Russell Cadwell past 1830. Anyone with
information please email me at dianekodet(a)hotmail.com. Thank you.
