I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the DICKINSON Family
including the first of S. E. DICKINSON of Mauston, WI which was taken at the
F. C. Everett Studio in Mauston, WI sometime in the 1890's. Samuel appears
to be in his 30's at the time the photograph was taken. The second
photograph is one of Cadwallader M. DICKINSON which was taken at the Lipp
Studio in New York, NY or Philadelphia, PA. The second photograph was taken
on 17 Jul 1905 when Cadwallader was just an infant. I don't know what the
connection is between these two members of the DICKINSON Family, but they
were recovered from the same source so I'm guessing that they are related.
Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information
regarding this family:
Samuel E. DICKINSON was b. Mar 1851 in Springfield, MA, he was the son of
Ira DICKINSON (1821-1862) and Caroline SMITH (1830-1882). Samuel was one of
four children born to this couple including, Otis; Samuel E.; Theda; and
Orpha P. DICKINSON all born between 1849 and 1869. Samuel married Lilly or
Lillie M. GRIMSHAW of Genesee, WI. They both died 14 Dec 1927 in Milwaukee,
WI from Coal Gas and are buried in the Genesee Cemetery in Genesee, WI. His
obituary indicates that he was survived by a sister, Mrs. O. E. SEYMOUR of
Hood River, OR; and his wife was survived by a sister, Mrs. Samuel NELSON of
Genesee, WI.
Cadwallader M. DICKINSON was born about 1904 or 1905 in Pennsylvania to
parents John Morton DICKINSON (b. 1869) and Susan Hemphill CADWALLADER (b.
1872). Cadwallader had a sister, Rebbecca Wallace DICKINSON b. 1909 or
1910.
I also have a photograph of Susan CADWALLADER and her sister which was taken
when they were young. I'm hoping to locate someone from this family so that
the photographs can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member
of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
