I received some documents on an Isaac Cadwalader who resided in the Illinois Soldiers and
Sailors' home from 1913 until his death in 1919. On his application for admission in
1913 he states he had five living children, and wanted Mrs. Susan Brown of Udall, Kansas
to be the person notified of any illness or death, and that his personal belongings should
be sent to her in the event of his death.
I have not been successful in finding Susan Brown but expect that she was probably one of
his daughters, and would still be living in Udall, Kansas in 1919 and 1920, as a note on
the hospital inventory states that "2 watches, 2 knives & purse in a suitcase.
One suitcase and contents. 1 Bundle and contents," were shipped to Susan Brown,
Udall, Kansas Dec 9, 1920.
The admission record states that Isaac was born 13 Apr 1835 in Harrison, Ohio, and was
previously living in Quincy, Adams, Illinois prior to admission to the Home; that he was a
PVT., and served with Co., I 148 IL US INF. and enrolled in Quincy, 10 Feb 1865, and
discharged 5 Sep 1865.
I suspect that Isaac was the son of John Cadwallader who was living in Fulton Co.,
Illinois in 1850 with wife Belinda, and children Rachel, Isaac, Eliza, Thomas, Jesse,
Hannah and Zachary, but would like to either confirm my suspicions or rule him out of that
family.
If anyone has a connection to this particular Isaac Cadwalader, or Susan Brown, I would
appreciate your contacting me.
Thank you very much.
