Hi everyone, I,m new to this system of lists and message boards. Although I
use a computer at work I came to computers late in life and remain a bit of a
dinosaur.
Have traced the lineage back to 4xgt grandparents who were Thomas and
Charlotte Barclay Cadwallader. They lived in Mill Street, Ludlow, Shropshire.
Thomas was a blacksmith operating from premises in Mill Street until he died
in 1816, aged 43, whereupon his wife appears to have taken over the business
and continued it for many years. They had four children, Thomas (1801),
Richard (1802), Ann (1804) and William (1806) all located in Baptisms at
Parish Church.
Richard became a farrier and set up in business with his family nearby in
Ludlow.
Ann married a solicitor's clerk and lived in a neighbouring house in Mill
Street, joined there in her later years by her mother (1841 Census).
Charlotte Barclay Cadwallader died in Hosyers Almhouses, Ludlow in 1851 aged
82, but where did she come from to meet and marry Thomas about 1800 ? and was
Thomas from the Ludlow area ?
I cannot find any marriages of Thomas and Charlotte in local records or
indexes.
My line is through Richard, the farrier, his son John (1839-1901) who became
a baker, moved to Birmingham and established his own bakery shops, his
daughter Leah (1868 - 1965) who married Sylvester Haines (!866 - 1939 ?),
their daughter Emily (1892 - 1918) who married William Ainsworth (1890-1985),
and my father William Sylvester Ainsworth (1915) now 86 yrs old.
Can anybody help or offer a line of enquiry to locate my Charlotte Barclay, a
formidable lady methinks.
Regards
Fred Ainsworth
