Hi,Bruce,
I've just now read a message that you posted on the Cadman board on 3 Jan 2002! I
just have never gotten around to going to the board, but I'm sure glad that I did
today!
I'm also a descendant of William Cadman, via George who marr Hannah Hathaway; She
and George had dau, Hannah CADMAN, b ca 1685, who marr William WHITE, who was a gg
g'grandson of William White, Mayflower passenger. They had son, Abner, b 1725. and
marr Ruth BROWNELL, b 1727, d/o Charles and Mary (Wilbore/Wilbur) BROWNELL. Ruth marr
Abner WHITE, s/o William & Elizabeth (Cadman) WHITE.
Abner & Ruth had dau Mary WHITE, b 1748, @ Little Compton, RI. She marr, poss. as his
2nd wife, Joseph HARRIS, s/o Joseph & Catherine (Hegeman) HARRIS. Catherine was d/o
Francis & Antjem (Ruard/Ruwart) HEGEMAN,.
The dau of Joseph & Mary HARRIS was Ruth, prob @ Dutchess Co., NY. She was b aft
1769. Ruth marr Ellathan MARSHALL, my ggg g'mother. Their son was George Clinton
MARSHALL, b ca 1802 @ Poughkeepsie, Dutchess Co., NY. . d 1860 @ Poughkeepsie, Dutchess
Co., NY.
George Clinton MARSHALL marr Mary BALDING/BALDWIN, b 1809 @ Poughkeepsie, Dutchess Co.,
NY. She was d/o Isaac & Hannah (Russell) BALDING/BALDWIN. George & Mary MARSHALL
had son, James MARSHALL, Jr. (James' g'grandfather was James MARSHALL, Sr.)
James Jr. & Mary MARSHALL had daughter, Edith Robertson MARSHALL, (my paternal
grandmother.) She was b 1864 @ NYC, d 1945 @ Providence, RI. She was visiting my parents
and my sister & me at the time...my father was in the Marine Corps and stationed at
Quonset Point, RI.
Edith marr James Wray CLEVELAND, b 1859 @NYC, d 1937 @ NYC. They had four children,
one of whom was my father, Robertson Lispenard CLEVELAND, b 1894 @NYC, d 1951 @ NYC.
He marr Janet Gregory ARMSTRONG, b 1894 @ NYC, d 1962 @ NYC.
That's all I have so far on the Cadmans. I can go back much, much farther with
some branches of the family, but I also have several tall brick walls of long-standing!
And most, if not all, are on my mother's side. In particular, two Scotsmen, who
apparently decided not to leave a paper trail for their lives before they came to
America. One of these days (hopefully in the fairly distant future!), I'll probably
be shaking a finger under their respective noses! I've been doing this now for over
25 years, and I'm still on Square 1!
If you have any info on any of these families, I'd really love to hear from you! And
I hope you're enjoying your retirement!
I retired in the middle of 1996. because of my husband's illness. It had gotten
to the point where I couldn't take proper care of him and still do justice to my
job, and I loved the job too much to do a bad job, so I retired. If I'd known the
timetable, I'd have taken another leave of absence...I think I'd have been a lot
better off. But he'd been so sick for so long (terminally ill for almost 9 years) and
then he only lived about 14 months after I retired. Life is funny...
Well.I'm hoping to hear from you...this genealogy is about the only thing that keeps
me sane...when it's not driving me crazy!!
Regards,
Barbara in MO (but originally from NYC)
