This is a very obscure enquiry! At a neighbourhood gathering the other day, we were
discussing naval boats and it came to me that way back in the 1950's when I was a
young boy, I spent a memorable afternoon out on the Waitemata Harbour on a large boat. It
was an ex navy fairmile and, if I'm not mistaken, it was owned by a Mr Cadman. A
friend of someone in my family. For years after, as a reasonably regular visitor to
Auckland from our home in Napier, I used to admire the same boat moored in the Orakei
basin.
Then, I think it was aquired by the Government, renamed MV Colville, and was used to
service lighthouses.
Does this ring a "bell" with anyone? Who was the Mr Cadman? What was the boat
called before renamed Colville? I think my connection may have been through an uncle Wilf
Spragg (Spraggs Garage in Lorne St and later St Heliers).
