Just seen your post and got quite interested. William, son of John Cadman and Charlotte
Jackson (grocer) of Barthomley is in my tree. He's a footman / butler at various
places though I've not seen him past the 1901 census - can't yet find him in the
1911.
HOWEVER (1) I had him marrying Martha Jane Lee in Manchester 1890 - I even got the
certificate to check. Martha seems to go back to Barthomley to run the grocer's shop -
presumably after her father-in-law's death in 1904. (At least - she runs _a_ grocery
in Barthomley and since the place has scarce enough houses to reach double figures,
it's very likely it's the same one). Martha had 3 children according to the 1911
census, one in 1890 (born Oakengates, Shropshire), another abt 1895 (born Shifnal,
Shrops.) and a 3rd who died.
HOWEVER (2) William and Martha are never found together in censuses. After their marriage,
she (not her husband) is at Barthomley in 1891 with her father-in-law, Oakengates (her
birthplace) in 1901 and back at Barthomley in 1911 - with her own mother. Further, there
is no sign of William on her grave in Barthomley churchyard (she died in 1944).
I know nothing of William's marriage to any Frances nor a son Frederick. Does William
have an interesting life that I've not seen so far?
Adrian
