Hi Don - In answer to your e-mail. William J. Caid was my Great-Great Grandfather. The
birthdate of 3 Jan 1836 comes from the Treat Family Bible. He was born in Jasper Co., MO.
He died 16 May 1862. I too believe he is the William Caid who was a member of Co. A, 2nd
MO Inf., CSA, Pvt. I don't know where he died.
His son, James Thomas Caid, was born 16 Nov 1861, in Marion Co., Arkansas. Maniza Caid
remarried to Ignatious Treat on 20 March 1864 in Polk Co., Arkansas. The Treat family says
she was born in Tennessee. I don't know as I have no definite information on what her
maiden name was. Dale Treat thinks it is Hitchcock based on work done by Gary D. Treat.
However, I can't find a Maniza Hitchcock in census records who would be the right
age.
I believe that William J. Caid was the son of Isaac O. Caid and his wife Matilda
(Unknown). The census records show Isaac O. Caid in 1850 in Marion Co., Arkansas with a
son William age 15. Isaac was a farmer and was born in Tennessee, as was Matilda.
There is an 1850 census in Marshall Co., Mississippi for Isaac O. Caid, wife Matilda, son
Wm. age 12.
In light of the following, and because William was born in Arkansas, I tend to think the
Marion Co. 1850 location is correct:

Hope this helps. In answer to "why go private" -- that is to relay information
regarding personal location or other private information that doesn't belong on the
Internet for general consumption.
