In case anyone has felt inspired by Robert Hillier's recent message on the
Dorset list (and has not heard it all before), I offer a summary of what I
have on the known (to me) Dorset Caddy lines.
The Pulham/Holwell line seems to have been traced to the parents of David
Caddy, who was baptised in 1718. Derek Smith has apparently established a
link to what I previously had as a separate line from Piddlehinton. This
is the ancestral line of Robert, amongst others. The list on his website
includes some names that I do not have.
My line descends from John Caddy of Burstock, whose first marriage was in
1707 or 1709.
Joseph Caddy married Maria Dare in 1777 in Hawkchurch, and his family
settled in Bettiscombe.
Robert Caddy is said to have been born in 1778, and his issue were found in
Broadwindsor and parishes over the Somerset border.
James Caddey is said to have been born about 1850 at Hazelbury, Dorset. I
do not think that I have made contact with any of his known relatons.
There seems to be at least one line from Weymouth, but I have not
investigated it yet, and do not know of anyone who has.
