Hello Jeremy and Robert,
I noted with huge interest your comment Jeremy, that (if I understand
you correctly) a link has been established between the Pulham/Holwell
Caddy family and the Piddlehinton Caddy's.
I haven't had a lot of time to do genie research over the last few
years, and haven't come across Derek Smith or his website...could I
have the address to have a look. (Would dearly love to know what that
elusive link is between the two families!)
Robert,
Diana CADDY, nee OLD is the lady pictured in 'The Story of
Piddlehinton'. Her husband, Benjamin, was listed as 'keeper of the
beerhouse' in parish registers before his death. She seems to have
taking over from him after his death.
Had a brief look at your 'Caddy crew' on your website and see you're
missing dates for my 2 x gt grandfather Edward Barnett CADDY and his
siblings.
If you'd like them...here are some of them:
Edward Barnett CADDY was born 1841 in Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey.
He died here in New Zealand 11 May 1881 in Onehunga Auckland with
TB. He married Margaret Caroline E(A)GAN in Parnell, Auckland, NZ in
1866. (She died 22 August, 1922 in Onehunga, New Zealand). Edward
came to NZ with the British army (14th Regiment of Foot) 1860.
Walter Gregory CADDY, was born 1846, Piddletrenthide (baptised 15 May
1846 Piddlehinton). He also came to New Zealand and died here 23 June
1924 Auckland. He married twice and had one living daughter. Not sure
how Walter came to NZ, so far it's fair to assume he swam!
Albert CADDY came with the British army (65th Regiment of Foot) to NZ
late 1850's, and married (1) Sarah HICKY on 5 November 1858, New
Plymouth, New Zealand. They had one living son who remained in New
Zealand when Albert left with the army. His regiment appear to have
been sent to Ireland, where Albert married again and had more children.
As a matter of interest, Edward Barnett, Elizabeth and Walter Gregory
CADDY were all in the Workhouse in Weymouth, Dorset in the 1851
census. Their mother Harriet (nee BARNETT) had died 1850 in Weymouth.
Joseph CADDY, their father, was in Pimperne, Dorset. Seems he was
staying with some of his BARNETT in laws.
Harriet BARNETT came from a Wesleyan family. She was born 1812 in
Stourpaine, Dorset and her parents were James BARNETT and Elizabeth
(nee DIBBEN). Joy LEWIS unearthed all of the Wesleyan records for
the BARNETT's and eventually found Harriet for me (so I have her to
thank hugely for the BARNETT link!)
I've not found Edward Barnett CADDY's sibling, Elizabeth, yet...would
dearly love to know if anyone has come across a marriage or death for
her. She was baptised 25 Nov, 1838, Piddlehinton. Family notes from a
2 x gt uncle say she married ? WALLS...but the information he had was
proved unreliable in quite a few aspects.
regard to all,
Dianne Vickers
