I am descended from John Caddy, born about 1764.
I have previously thought that my line of descent came through John's son Samuel Caddy
and his wife Ann Richards and then through their son John Caddy and his wife Isabella,
whose maiden name has been uncertain.
Research shows that Isabella's maiden name was Tremethick, and that she was christened
in Marazion on 13 October 1822. Her marriage certificate shows that she married not John
Caddy, but John Caddy Williams in St. Hilary on 24 February 1844. He was an illegitimate
child of John Williams and Catherine Caddy (Samuel's sister) and as such was
Samuel's nephew and not his son.
Incidentally, it seems that there were two couples called Samuel and Ann Caddy, and one
called Samuel and Nanny Caddy, all living in the parish of St. Hilary from the mid
1820's, so fellow researchers should be aware of the possibility of attaching the
wrong children to the wrong parents.
