I will be inactive on the list for an undetermined length of time.
However, I will continue to read mail but not every day as in the past.
I just brought my wife home from cancer surgery and have no idea when I
will be active again. Please pray for her.

Dear Cousins,
I think we are all pretty shocked and saddened at the terrible news that
Bill e-mailed to us recently, and I know that we have let him know that
he and his wife are in our prayers and thoughts.
Bill has worked for decades on researching our family. His work in the
States meant that he travelled around the country a lot. He checked
all kinds of records on the CADDELL family and all of the variant
spellings. He went to Scotland and met with the former owner of Cawdor
Castle, carefully reviewing the records of the family back to the
earliest middle ages and documented everything. His work has been
published and is available on a history that goes back to King Duncan
of Scotland, 1033 - 1039 AD. This history can be found at:
http://www.castles.org/Chatelaine/CALDER.HTM
and is called "Caddell, Calder and Cawdor: the family name in Scotland".
He has other writings as well that he has shared with the list on
earlier history. These are great sources to find out about the antiquity
and greatness of our story.
Bill also has given us a place to connect with our relatives and
shared many places to discover who and where our ancestors were, what
they did and how to find out more.
For a lot of us, this list is an
important way to try to find our family members and I hate to
see it come to a standstill because Bill and his wife are in a tragic
struggle. Maybe it seems disrespectful to want continue with the list,
but I feel that when a man puts a huge part of his life and heart
into his work it does him honor to carry on til his troubles get better
and he can take over the leadership again.
While no one can take his place right know, he set up
the List so that we have a way to communicate with each other and
share what we know. We have a lot of places to research, like on-line
Census', US Archives, Muster Rolls and other computer resources that get
up-dated from time to time. Or we find old records that have more
names to check out. We can look over the Archives for this List at
rootsweb and recheck all the information to see if we missed something.
We also have our own families who come up with new information
(sometimes you have to beg or nag a little) and sometimes you
just get lucky with new clues.
I hope we will keep on doing what we have been doing, even if its
harder without Bill's expert touch.
The CADDELL-L has a set of instructions we
all received when we subscribed. If we didn't save these, we can get
them again from rootsweb, if people need to look up any rules.
Bill says in his e-mail that he is going to keep checking his mail
but just not every day. It would probably be good for him to see that
all the hard work he's done continues and I'll bet that we all have
empty spaces on our genealogy charts that need to be filled in.
I hope to be reading more postings. Its been real quiet for a
whileand I miss you all.
Sincerely,
Daphne Jacob, nee Caudle
