Dolores et al,
Merry Christmas!
I just ran onto some interesting info on the CADDEL family while surfing the
internet that may answer questions that have been hanging for years. I don't
know where it's going to lead, but....
You may or not recall my trying to find the LEA family connection to our Andrew
CADDEL (from Scotland). i.e. Andrew migrated with the LEA family and others from
Spotsylvania Co., VA to Orange Co., NC c1752, where Andrew was on land survey
teams (1754) w/members of the LEA family, mostly with Major LEA (survey dates
1754-1762) and later Andrew was co-executor for will of a John LEA (uncle to
Major). Both GREEN and HENDERSON married into the LEA family. AND, as we know
several GREEN married CADDEL and Andrew married a Jean HENDERSON. Major LEA had
a sister, Adelphia LEA (1748-1813) who married a Joseph HENDERSON, who I believe
was related to Andrew CADDEL's wife Jean. I am told that Joseph was the son of
Samuel HENDERSON Sr. of Caswell Co., NC. Adelphia LEA HENDERSON died in Wilkes
Co., GA, just over the state line from Pendleton Dist., SC where the CADDEL
settled in 1804.
According to his death notice, old Uncle Lewis Green CADDEL, son of Andrew
Henderson CADDEL and grandson of the Scottish boy Andrew, was born 1824, McMinn
Co., Tennessee (TN). William Riley CADDEL, youngest son of Andrew of Scotland,
was listed in the 1830 census of McNairy Co.,TN. An early record of a CADDEL
from St Clair Co., AL stated "went to Tennessee for a trial..." I've always
wondered, but have never found a clue as to why The CADDEL were ever in TN.
Both John and his brother Major LEA (1742-1843) migrated from Orange/Caswell
Co., NC to TN. Major LEA died there in 1822 and his brother John LEA died there
in 1830. Another brother, Luke LEA (1739-1813) had moved to TN in 1790, while
Major moved in 1798. They were later listed in records of several counties in
eastern TN.
A record posted on the internet stated, Achsa LEA (1790-1864), granddaughter of
Luke LEA, who married (c1814) a Floyd ESTES (1789-1826), was living (during
1820s) next to her uncle John LEA (brother to Major LEA) in McMinn Co., NC.
What does all this mean: finally a TN connection has been found for the CADDEL,
HENDERSON, GREEN, and now LEA...at least a good starting point for further research.
Does any of this sound familiar to you? Please share any info that you might
have to this mix....
