Looking for information on Benjamin Cadle, b. Surry NC 1788. He was a stonemason who
enlisted in the 24th US Infantry in 1813 in Wilson Co., Tn. He received a bounty land
warrant for land in Howard Co., Mo (present Carroll Cnty). I have a copy of a letter
Benjamin wrote to the government asking that a copy of the map of his territory be sent to
him in Jefferson, Jackson Co., Ga. this land was granted to him on May 7, 1819.
I suspect this is my great great grandfather Benjamin Caudell/Caudle who moved from Wilkes
co., NC before 1815 to Franklin Co., Ga. This is present Banks Co., Ga., where many of
the citizens today do major business in Jefferson, Jackson Co., Ga. - an adjoining county.
(part of jackson Co. was made from Franklin Co.) My grandfather's chimneys in his
old homestead had some of the finest stonemasonry in the area. My Ben fits the
description, place of birth and year of the Ben Cadle. And his descendants all had a pull
toward Tennessee.
My Question also: If the above Ben Cadle is not my Ben Caudell/Caudle, what happened to
Ben Cadle? I would appreciate any information and would be glad to share notes.
thanks,
