Andrew CADDEL (CADDLE) first appeared (in NC records I've found) in 1754
where he worked with surveyors in Orange County, in which he continued
surveying thru at
least 1762. In abt 1765 (based on est of ages of his children) he
married Jean HENDERSON. I don't know her origin, but I think it was
Virginia also). I first
found Andrew on 2 Apr 1751 where he witnessed a deed in Spotsylvania
Co., VA.
I suspect as a surveyor he came to Orange County, NC when the county was
being formed in 1752. I would like to know at what point he became
associated with the LEA family. BUT he definitely had a close
association. After he came to Orange Co., NC he lived in the area of the
Hyco which became Person Co., NC.
The above info I have had for several years.
Now for the update. I just located a LEA descendant that has detailed
records on the LEA family of Orange/Caswell/Person Cos., NC. Her direct
ancestors were John LEA and his son Major Tillman LEA (refer to 1754
chronology above). John LEA came from England to Spotsylvania Co., VA
and Major Tillman LEA was born in Spotsylvania. It is noted that Andrew
CADDEL was co-executor to the will of John LEA in 1778. Also, his son
Major LEA and Andrew CADDEL did surveys (1754-1762) of land in the newly
formed County of Orange Co., NC. Through her records I hope to find new
info on Andrew CADDEL. She is going on vacation soon, ut when she gets
back she promised to send me info from her records. I'm hoping this will
be a breakthrough in discovering the early life of Andrew CADDEL.
