Jean,
Thanks for the info on Robert J. CADDEL. Some of the details I did not
have.
You mentioned "I do know there are Caddels (Caddells) in Hunt,
Hopkins, & Lamar Counties, since I have worked a great deal in all of
these counties, but am not sure just who they were."
The Hunt County family were descendants of William CADDEL (brother to
John Calvin CADDEL) father of Andrew Jackson CADDEL who was father of
Adam Lafayette CADDELL (my g grandfather)...
and descendants of James Banks CADDELL, father of Jonathan CADDELL who
was father of Martin CADDELL who was the father of James Tilford
CADDELL.
All the family in Hopkins County were descendants of Andrew Jackson
CADDEL above, my gg grandfather.
The Lamar County family were descendants of Andrew Henderson CADDEL
(brother of John Calvin CADDEL) father of Lewis Green CADDEL who was
father of John Lewis CADDEL...
and descendants of of James Banks CADDELL, father of Jonathan CADDELL
who was father of William CADDELL (brother of Martin CADDELL noted
above) and his son Dr. Martin B. CADDELL before they moved to Wise
County, TX.

Bob,
It's been a long while since we heard from you. I was working hard on
getting all I had together for you just before Christmas a year ago, and got
interrupted - first by Christmas, and then by another family, George's
mother's family. We had found most of the relatives of her grandparents and
many of their relatives over in Lamar County buried in an old cemetery,
called Lee Cemetery. It was completely destroyed, but after 15 years of
digging, probing, cutting huge old fallen cedar trees, clearing, etc. we
finally enough people together to get it restored, have been approved as a
historical cemetery in Texas and applied for a marker, as well as several
civil war markers, one 1812 memorial, and two Sons of the Republic. Have two
marked as having died in 1831, when it was still Mexican Territory, so don't
know what type of marker they may be eligivle for. One could have fought in
War of 1812, but haven't found him yet. Now we are compiling a book - hoping
to have it out before this Christmas so we can sell a bunch to our members
and others for Christmas presents.
Incidentally, there was a James Cadle, who lived very near them, and I have
been in touch with a man by the name of Leatherwood, whose gr grandmother was
his daughter & lived next door. He knows nothing of the Caddel side of his,
but we're hoping??? Enough of that - I really wrote about Robert J. Caddel,
and will give you what little I have dug out, along with Minnie Henderson,
through the years. Maybe some of it that you don't already have will help
you.

Of course, your Joseph Wilburn Caddel Jr. had not been born in the last
census I found, but his father should have shown up. The fact that he is
called Jr. might not necessarily mean that his father bore the same name;
however, his father's middle name was Joseph according to your records, and
this could have been true, though he had a brother also named Joseph Doty.
Quite often they were called Jr. to identify them from perhaps an Uncle or
some other member of the family. If, indeed, Joseph Wilburn Caddel was
descended from Robert J., it appears that he would have been the son of
Robert himself. Since Robert married the Sarah Acrey (which could have been
mistakenly written Arkin) do you think that perhaps the father of Joseph
Wilburn Jr. was the son of Robert, rather than another Joseph Wilburn.

Caddell, Robert J., b. 1836, m. Sarah Acrey 30 Nov 1858 in Rusk County,
dau of Abner/Martha Jackson. Service: Co. H. 4th Regt. Texas Calvary, Capt,

He received land in Kaufman Co., Abst. No. 114, pre-empt, 160 acres, patent
in 1877.

W. J. Newman sold 160 a. to Robert & Sarah out of the Sam McAmer survey.
Deeds 70, p. 461 - Nov 24, 1896:
R. J. & Sarah Caddell of the county of Kaufman, sold 105 1/2 acres to G. W.
Hunt land as follows: On waters of Cedar Creek, John Ables Survey.
Since Robert J. was the only one about which we had so little information
I spent a day in Kaufman County, which is right next door to us. This is
the last reference I found of them or any other Caddel; however, I only had
one day to spend at the court house, and tax office, and I dare say there are
other records I missed, since I didn't have time to do all I would have liked
to have done. There were a number of Acrey's and other family names into
which the various Caddel children married, so he wasn't there alone, I feel
sure.
At the tax appraisal office, I found their land to be in the northeast
corner of the county. Also went out to the location of the land, and did a
little snooping, but no results at the old cemeteries, etc. I found - had
planned to go back another day, but just haven't found the time yet.
They did have a number of sons, which dropped out of sight from Kaufman
county so far as I can tell. I do know there are Caddels (Caddells) in Hunt,
Hopkins, & Lamar Counties, since I have worked a great deal in all of these
counties, but am not sure just who they were. These counties are north &
north east of Kaufman, Lamar being right on the Oklahoma line.
Think this is everything I have. Hope some of these other family names may
help you to prove what you are looking for. Quite often, when I loose a
person or can't make the right connection, I find the relatives and neighbors
to be quite helpful.
Good luck, and let me know what you find.
Jean Caddel
