Looking at the map closer, it show KALEDOR as either a surname or a
House name. The castle symbol is not show.
According to history of the CADELL/CALDER (CAWDOR) castle, the first
castle was built during the 1370s. Supposidly a house existed which was
reinforced into a castle. Then during the mid 1400s more construction
was done. In 1972 when I corresponded with Lord CAWDOR he referenced an
earlier castle nearby (now only a cropmark in a field) the current
CAWDOR Castle. To me there is still confusion as to which Castle the
early Scottish records refer.
In the inserts at the bottom of the map also show CADER just north of
Glasgow which corresponds to CADDER on the current map of Scotland.
Southwest of Edinburgh is also listed KALDOR next to a house symbol
which probably corresponds with the area of East/West Calder today.
There is or was a Calder House in the area.
If you remember my previous reference by Martin Coventry (author of the
Castles of Scotland) where he stated that in 1236 the thane of CAWDOR
(de CADELLA) took the name of CALDER when he was granted the lands by
Alexander II. The date of the map seems to bear that out. Then
apparently later some reverted back to the name(s) CADDELL, CADELL,
CADDEL, etc.
