Bill,
Have you posted the info contained in the family Bible of James Banks
Caddell? Is this where the name Banks comes from?
Thank you,
Mary Lou

Subject: Andrew CADDEL & Family
Patrick et al,
I don't believe we've conversed before. Where do you fit in on the
CADDELL(L) family tree?
I still have never been able to find info on Thomas CADDEL. Researchers
in the James Banks CADDELL family seem to think that Thomas was in their
family. However, I do not think so...because Andrew CADDEL and James
Banks CADDELL were abt same age. I have found no mention of Thomas as a
son of James Banks. I have a photocopy of James Banks CADDELL bible and
Thomas was not mentioned.
Here is what I currently have on the construction of Andrew and Jean's

In 1998, I received a letter from Marlin E. Caddell, Birmingham, AL
which included a notarized copy of a handwritten letter dated 2 Sep
1921, Winfield, AL. The letter addressed to Reverend Jas. I (James Ira)
Caddell of Warrior, AL was from an Ethel Caddell (Ethel Vernice :b. 9
Oct 1902). The letter included a record written in 1888 by Old Uncle
Lewis Caddel copied from an older record he had at the time and included
the following text: "My Grandfather came across the ocean from England
to the Carolinas at the age of 14 years. He was sold by Captain on ship
to pay for his pass way over to the 'New World.' He worked his time out
which was 7 years for his new master and then married. in Carolina. He
raised three sons - John, Andrew and William...." The letter also stated
that Old uncle Lewis was Lewis Green Caddel (son of Andrew Henderson
Caddel and grandson of Andrew Caddel the emigrant). Lewis was born 7 Sep
1824, McMinn County, TN and died 30 Mar 1905, being 80 years of age.
Lewis had five (five counting himself) brothers - John (Jackson),
Andrew, Thomas, Lewis and Bazzie. They had an uncle John (John Calvin
CADDEL) and Billy (William Riley CADDEL). John had a son Andrew (Andrew
Caddel :b. 21 Oct 1795). Billy had a son Andrew (Andrew Caddel :b. 5 Nov
1817) and there one borned after uncle Billy died, his name unknown.
Andrew (son of Billy) moved to Ark. And we don't know what became of
him." (Emphasis and explanation added).
It is well documented that Andrew CADDEL (son of John Calvin CADDEL)
went to Texas in 1834 and fought in the Battle of San Jacinto - Texas'
independence from Mexico. AND, the children of Andrew Henderson CADDEL
is fairly well documented. BUT, until I received this letter from Marlin
Caddell, I did not know that William was the father of Andrew (that went
to Arkansas), my gg grandfather (Andrew Jackson CADDEL). I had always
thought that his father was Benjamin CADDEL. The reason that Lewis Green
CADDEL said "And we don't know what became of him". Andrew Jackson
CADDEL, wife Mary Burchfield and children left Alabama in abt 1854 to
Columbia Co., AR. Andrew had fought in the Creek Indian War of 1836 and
received bounty land grant in Arkansas. THEN, when the Civil War "broke
out" Andrew and his three oldest sons entered the War - all died by the
spring of 1863. Andrew's wife and minor children had no further contact
with the family in Alabama as they moved to Hopkins Co., TX. Mary soon
died
As far as the identity of the wife of William Riley CADDEL, her name was
Jane and thought to be a GREEN. The public records of the estate (as I
recall) of Burwell GREEN identified her spouse as deceased and William
CALDWELL, CADWELL and CADDLE. I have likewise, been able to prove or
disprove their marriage.
Little is know about William or Benjamin other than the tax/land deed
records of Person Co., NC and census records of St. Clair Co., AL.
William was in the 1820 census of St Clair Co., AL and the 1830 census
of McNairy Co., TN. Benjamin was in the 1830 census of St Clair Co., AL.
Delila was in the 1840 census of St Clair Co., AL. It is thought that
both William and Benjamin died during the 1830s. Both had minor children
in their household when they died.
