Again, I encourage Ann & others who may be descendents of those buried
there, to check what legal recourse you have. I am TOTALLY appalled at
the actions of the residents. Most states have laws protecting
cemetaries...I just hope Alabama does too!
Bottom line -- get cracking and check with the authorities rather than
talking about it...and keep us posted!

I have been assured that the story is true!
Charlene Simpson, Ashville Museum and Archives, provided information
from "Little Known Burial Sites and Cemeteries in Etowah County, AL," by
W. A. Lewis. A Caddell cemetery is located north of Gadsden off US
Highway 411 - turn right on Princeton Avenue to Tidmore Bend Road, then
1 mile to Hooks Lake Road, turn right and go .6 miles to Indian Camp
Road, left .4 mile where the road ends in Mike Lasseter's yard.
According to the book the following may be buried there - Andrew Caddel
(died 1825), Jean (Jane) Henderson Caddell (no dates) wife of Andrew,
Andrew Henderson Caddell (died 1855) son of Andrew and Jean Caddell, and
Susan Green Caddell (died 1867) wife of Andrew Henderson Caddell. The
cemetery was located there on 7 Aug 1963.
The cemetery is said to be in the front yard of the current owner. The
owner said he and his wife were tired of seeing the tombstones in their
front year, so they layed over the stones, covered them with plastic and
covered it all with dirt.
My question is - what happens when the owners die and the property
becomes a shopping mall ???????
