It may also be of interest to those of you searching for family that Caddell was common in
Caithness - northernmost county on Scottish mainland - in Old Parish Records of the
1600's, particularly in the parishes of Canisbay , Dunnet and Watten. (That may also
have something to do with the fact that they are some of the oldest records we have!) A
similar occurrence can be found on Orkney. By the end of the 17th century, Calder and
Caddell become interchangeable and currently , the surname Calder (pronounced Colda) is so
common that bynames are frequently used to identify individuals.
