in 1774, lived in Virginia and fuught in the Revolutionary War...."

Virginia, age 73 (born ca 1759), made petition for
pension, Revolutionary War, volunteered in 1780 with
Captain Paxton, 2nd Virginia Regiment, Rockbridge
County, VA, Captain Samuel Lasly, Colonel Haws,
commanding, continued until 1782, was at the seige of
"96." Verified by Court of Opinions, 8 August 1832.

Martinsville, Henry County, VA, reported her ancestor, Samuel CADDALL
came to America when a child from Ireland and settled on what is now

3.7. JAMES B. CADDALL :b. 1840, Pulaski Co., VA
:d. 22 Jul (year?), Pulaski Co., VA
"A prominwnt citizen of Pulaski County, VA. He attended Emory and Henry
College until the war broke out. He became a member of the original
Pulaski County Guard organized after the John Brown raid at Harper's
Ferry in 1859. When the war started, he was elected Orderly Sergeant
and shortly after to 1st Lieutenant. He commanded the battle of
Spottsylvania, being the only commissioned officer in the Company. He
later commanded the regiment in the battle of Petersburg, VA. He was in
36 battles and numerous other skermishes, more battles, than any other
member of his regiment, yet never wounded. He was described as brave,
calm and composed in battle, gentle and kind to those he commanded. At
all times held in highest esteem for his gallantry and soldierly conduct
by his superior officers, and especially commended by Colonel Terry,
brigade commander."
"There was astriking similarity in life by James B. And his father.
Both were noted for their devotion to duty. At all times ready to
sacrifice self for others. Both were charitable. They let not the call
of the poor and needy pass unheeded. Both served their county and state
in public service. Both had the admiration, respect and love of their
fellow citizens. Their good works did follow them."
