Ian & ALL:
How true Ian, the fact is it's not a perfect world. One must
conduct all business with a "watchful eye". All legitimate
firms - including credit card companies and credit bureaus
either already have a dossier or have access to one by
subscription on nearly every adult person...i.e. anyone that
has ever bought a car, got a credit card, got a loan or the
like. That leaves the dishonest lurker. No matter how hard
we try we are not protected from them. AND, it is rather
easy to secure info. I get email often offering to me
subscriptions for their services or software I can use on
internet to gain info.
I am indeed aware of all the pitfalls, as I was a criminal
investigator for the U.S. Government in my early years.

Certainly it is much more interesting to have current data available
but I
have been advised to be cautious.
It is common for Banks and other financial organisations to ask "security"
questions when you telephone them and these are often: Date and place of
Birth, mother's maiden name, etc. All in the public domain but apparently
not too easy for a casual fraudster to come by.
However, grouping all such data together in an easily accessible family site
is thought by some to be a real risk. I have therefore (very reluctantly
because it does spoil the show) left out most current dates etc. from
www.cadell.com
My suggestion is that un-censored material should be made available on
request to trustworthy members of the family or those with legitimate
interest.
