Martha Acker recently suggested the possibility that another CADDEL
existed since one record showed Andrew CADDEL as Jr. This has been a
question in the minds of many as long as I have been researching the
family.
Some researchers have thought that Andrew CALDWELL of Orange Co., NC to
be the CADDEL Sr., father of Andrew CADDEL Jr. (m. Jean HENDERSON). One
researcher by the name of Ruth (I can't remember her last name, now
deceased) from Missoula, MT that I had several letters to and from back
and others in the 1960s thought that Andrew CALDWELL was the father of
Andrew CADDEL Jr. To date I have found no connection.
Here is all I have on CALDWELL.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The person in question that died in 1766 (1765?) was an Andrew CALDWELL.
I have found no connection between him and Andrew CADDEL Jr. of Orange
County, NC.
Andrew CALDWELL:
Prior to
1718 - Andrew Caldwell immigrated to Americas (this may be the
Andrew Caldwell later mentioned in Orange County, NC).
1739 - August 8, Andrew Caldwell married Jennet Scott widow,
St. Michael Parish, Barbados Marriage Records 1643-1800,
Volume 1, page 164.
1755 - Tax list of Orange Co., NC listed Andrew CADDEL and Andrew
Caldwell, Zachariah CADLE and son, Zachariah CADELL Jr.,
Benjamin CADLE, Richard Henderson, Argulus Henderson and
William Henderson. It is known that the CADLEs listed came
from the Anne Arundel and Prince Georges counties, MD near
Stafford and Spottsylvania Counties, VA. However, it is also
known that GREENs and HENDERSONs and others associated
with the family also came from the same general areas of
Maryland and Virginia.
1761 - Andrew Caldwell, appointed constable in place of
Samuel Stuart Of Orange County, NC.
1765 - May, Janet Caldwell and James Freeland, letters of
testamentary on estate of Andrew Caldwell, deceased.

she was appointed administrator of Andrew Caldwell
estate, Orange County, NC.

I find nothing in the above data that shows any similarity with our
Andrew CADDEL Jr.
Do any of you have anything else on this possibility?
