Hi gang, especially the GREEN researchers,
The GREEN connection has been very confusing to many. I hope this
helps. Please advise if you have additional information on these
families.
The following are the only records I have concerning Burwell and Lewis
GREEN that married CADDEL. I do not know the date or location that the
CADDEL and GREEN families became acquainted. I do know that it is
generally known that the Orange County area of NC was beginning to
settle around the early 1750s.
1764 - Even before Caswell County, NC was formed from Orange County in
1777, we find that a Lewis GREEN lived in the area. A ford on the Dan
River was named after him.
1765 - April 12, Burwell GREEN probably born in Orange Co., NC. One
Genealogist reported that his GREEN family came from Charles City
Co., VA to Orange Co., NC by way of James City Co., VA and Prince George
Co., VA.
1789 - July 4, Burwell GREEN married Phebe (Phoeby) CADDEL: Bondsman -
Lewis GREEN (half-brother of Burwell GREEN), W. J. Womack - witness,
page 144. Caswell County, NC.
1789 - December 26, Lewis Green married Elizabeth CADDEL: Bondsman -
Andrew CADDEL (father of Elizabeth), W. J. Womack - witness, Caswell
Co., NC. Lewis was half-brother of Burwell GREEN. Refer to his estate
sale of 1794.
1791 - January 17, Lewis GREEN to Burwell GREEN, sale of 100 acres for
£50, land on Double Creek of South Hico, adjacent to Andrew CADWELL
(CADDEL) and Robert Dickens, Caswell County, Deed Book G, pages 158 and
159.
1794 - Inventory of estate of Lewis GREEN, deceased, Person County, NC,
sale of property went to Elizabeth (his widow), Burwell GREEN, Andrew
CODDLE (CADDEL), John CODDLE (CADDEL), and John GREEN (brother of
Lewis).
In a list of taxables, Part II, 1792-1797, March 1795 term, was shown
Lewis GREEN, deceased, with Elizabeth, wife, executor and sales of
estate lands to Burwell GREEN, John GREEN and John CADDEL.
1797 - Burwell GREEN of Person County, NC gave power-of-attorney to his
brother, John of Orange County, NC to sell his land, "because he was
moving." Recorded, 1800. About the same time, John CADDEL of Person
County, NC sold 303 acres on Double Creek on Hico River. Witnessed:
Burwell GREEN.
In 1797 and 1798 John CADDEL sold in two tracts the 165 acres previously
deeded to him in 1785, except for three acres, probably his home site.
Burwell GREEN was Witness.
1800 - December 2, John GREEN sold part of Burwell GREEN's land (re:
power-of-attorney listed in 1797), Book C, page 316, Orange County, NC.
1803 - October 17, John GREEN of Orange County, NC, sold land of Burwell
GREEN of Pendleton District, SC, Book C, page 421, Pendleton County, SC.

and Burwell GREEN were living in Pendleton District, SC, per census
records.
1817 - January 22, John GREEN of Orange County, NC, Book E, sold land
for Burwell GREEN of Pendleton County, SC.
1820 - In the deed records, Pendleton District, SC, Book P, page 173,
the following was listed: "State of South Carolina...I John CADDEL of
the state of Alabama...for $110.00 paid by Burwell GREEN of the same
place...sold...unto the said Burwell GREEN a tract of land
containing...55 acres, lying in Pendleton District on the south of

John CADDEL bought a ½ inch auger for 18 3/4 cents. Burwell GREEN
bought one yearling, two pigeons and all the tools. On 27 Feb 1835,
Burwell GREEN made final settlement on estate.
In St. Clair County, AL, deed book "B", page 920, Jane, widow of
William? (CADDEL), executed a quit claim deed to Cunningham Crawford for
$25.00 in exchange for her interest as on of the heirs-at-large of
Burwell GREEN Sr., deceased (her father). The deed was dated April 5,
1845 and signed by Jane (her X mark) Cadwell (CADDEL). It was also
