HEZEKIAH KARR CADDEL, son of Andrew Henderson Jr. and Emilie Mary
(Oden) CADDEL, was born (14 Mar 1842) in Cherokee County, AL, and
raised in Marion County, AL where he lived until he died. He was
buried in the Winfield cemetery.
After he married, he and Sarah moved from Winfield, AL to Haleys,
AL. In 1892 they moved to Pickens County, AL and by 1897 were back
at Winfield. Sarah was the daughter of Andrew Milligan and Manerva
Jane (MORTON) ASTON.
Records of the National Archives, Washington, D.C., showed Civil War
service for Hezekiah Karr. He was a private in Company "E", 4th
Alabama Regiment, Confederate States of America. He enlisted in the
spring of 1862 at Leighton, AL as a scout in Company "K", 4th
Alabama Calvary Regiment under General Nathan B. Forest. He
continued service until discharged at the end of the war.
After the Civil War, Hezekiah Karr returned home and married Sarah
Florentine. They built a home on the banks of the Budahatchie River
near his father Andrew Henderson CADDEL Jr. There he operated a post
office and cotton gin. He later became a merchant at Winfield.
Both Hezekiah Karr and Sarah Florentine were buried at the Winfield
Cemetery, Winfield, AL.
