1794 - November 29, John (Calvin) CADDEL married Mary
Jay. Bondsman - Joseph Jay, witness - B. Douglass.
records of Person County, NC.
Mary's parents were James and Mary (Voss) Jay. James was a Baptist
Minister, born 1 Jan 1744, Frederick Co., VA and died in 1835, Person
Co., NC. He married three times. All his children were by Mary VOSS his
first wife. They married in 1764, Orange Co., NC. James JAY was the son
of William and Mary Elizabeth (Vestal) JAY of Fairfax Co., VA and
Orange Co., NC.
William and his son James JAY were neighbors of Andrew CADDEL, the
father of John Calvin CADDEL.
The 1755 tax list for Orange County, NC listed (1-0 i.e. number of
whites polled-Blacks polled):
Andrew CADDLE (1-0) *
William JAY & son (2-0)
1797 - October 2, John CADDEL sold 60 acres on Double
Creek to John Scoggins, land bordering James Jay
property line, Person County, NC Book C, p. 95/98,
Burwell GREEN (husband of Phoeby CADDEL) witness.
1798 - October 3, John CADDEL sold 102 acres with house, woods
and water for £153, land joining Andrew CADDEL on the
north branch of Double Creek to Lewis Wisdom, Person
County, NC, Deed Book C, page 128, James JAY witness.
