Hi list and Margaret Guest,
We may have a connection. Do you have any further information on your Edith CADLE? I
do have an Edith CADLE on my family tree.
I am mulling out a debate about her parents George and Fanny CADLE. There were two
couples by that name in the area. Some of the information crosses over between the two
couples so perhaps I confused the two at one point and it got messed up. I am not an
expert at this genealogy stuff or at the computer.
So I have information on an Edith Cadle d/o George and Fanny Cadle but I had a birth
year of 1886. The George and Fannys had the following children:
Eliza b 1874; Louisa b 1875; George J. b 1877 in Wycombe; William J. b 1878 in
Maidenhead; Annie L. b 1879 in Maidenhead; Thomas b 1884; Edith b 1886; and Emily
b 1889.
In 1881 on the census George and Fanny Cadle (nee AYERS or WARNER, I don't know
which is which) were living on High St. in Long Crendon with a daughter Elizabeth b 1874
(Eliza was born the same year). They had a son Fred age 1 and a daughter Beatrice listed
as 3 mos. of age in 1881. This George Cadle was listed as a Publican and Groom at the One
Bul Inn in Long Crendon. I believe a Publican runs a pub, I think I checked on that. I
believe this George was born in 1847 in Chilton, Bucks.
However, in the 1881 census I also found a George and Fanny Cadle living at #39 Garden
Cottages in Cookham or Maidenhead with four children: Louisa A., George J., William J.,
and Annie L. This family shows up in 1891 with additional children and still living in
the Garden cottages: Thomas, EDITH!!!, and Emily were the additions. The father George
is listed as a barman. (I guessed that was another label for working in a pub.) I also
have him listed somewhere as a brewer's labourer b abt 1851 in Wycombe.
Also in 1891 I found a George and Fanny Cadle living on Bent's Way in Long Crendon
with three children: Emma J., Fred, and Beatrice This George was born in abt 1847 in
Chilton, which is in Buckinghamshire I believe. He was a carter and farmer m Fanny WARNER
23 Dec 1871 She was born in 1850. Their wedding witnesses were Sarah Ann Walker and John
Saunders who marked an X. I don't remember where I got that as I just checked my
certificates and I don't have that one.
I do have a certificate for a George and Fanny Cadle nee Ayers. This George Cadle
listed his father as John Cadle and George was age 24 in 1873 when they married. That
puts his birth at about 1849. This Fanny Ayers listed her age as 20 in 1873 putting her
birth in 1853 d/o James Ayers, a bricklayer. They were married at St. Luke's the
Parish Church in Maidenhead, Berkshire. The witnesses were James and Jane Ayers.
One of these Georges was my great great grandfather's older brother. The other
was the son of Henry Cadle in Matthew's line instead of my Hugh Cadle line. Matthew
and Hugh were both sons of Matthew Cadle born 1707 in Long Crendon. Their mother was
Hester MUNDAY.
I have a lot more to share and perhaps should have e-mailed you directly but I thought
we weren't supposed to do that on these lists. Can you confirm that for me? I hope
you have a connection on something in my family tree and we can compare more notes.
Anxious to hear from you.
