Thanks for the e-mail. Yes, the message from Rootsweb was a bit confusing
until I reached the last paragraph! I'm a novice at this; this is the first
time I've tried to post to a list and obviously I need to read the rules
first. I'm guessing if I hadn't used a message with a background, it would
have gone through okay?
At any rate, I would appreciate it if you would forward my inquiry to the
list for me. I will forward it on to you.
This is everything I have on Richard Cadel, which I found on a websites for
the Blake Surname:
About 1277: Richard Cadel, a fuedatory of the Earl of Ulster and Lord of
Connaught, Richard DeBurgh, migrated to Galway from Wales before 1277. In
1277 (the sixth year of his reign) King Edward I knighted Cadel "Sir Richard
Blake". He then assumed the Blake surname and was the ancestor of all the
Blakes in Connaught. His family used the surname of Caddell as an alias for
many generations. Richard Cadel is considered the progenitor of all the
Blake descendants.
In 1278: Castle and lands of Kiltorroge and castle and lands of Sallim'croe
(now Carmore) located in Dunkellin County, Galway were granted to Richard
Cadel/Sir Richard Blake by DeBurgh.
By 1315: He had received the manor and lands of Kiltullagh.
In 1466: Blake purchased Manor Tonwills of Wimbotsham, Norfolk, England.
Richard Cadel's wife was Eveline. They had four sons: Walter, John,
Nicholas, and Valentine.
The Blakes of Galway, Ireland, were one of the 14 tribes of Galway.
This book was listed as the source for the above information:

Genealogy, Galway (Ireland) History.

I haven't attempted to order the book yet through the library but hope to
soon.
Again, thank you for your help.
Joy
