Andrew, Ian et al:
This sounds interesting. I have multiple queries out but no responses her...
I found the following reference on Ancestry.com's CD "English Parish Records:
England (General)":
Cadall als. Calldell,Andrew, ship "Loyal Merchant" 1692 26.
Do any of you research Ship Lists etc. If, so see what you can find.
I did find out that there were three ships named "Loyal Merchant":
The "Loyal Merchant(s)" were part of the English East India Company Ships. From
its first charter in 1600, the English East India Company (EIC) operated one of
the most extensive shipping operations in support of its trading enterprises
during the colonial period of the Americas. The merchant or mercantile fleet was
responsible for carrying cargoes outward to the east, returning richly laden
with exotic goods which found a ready (and profitable) market in Europe. There
were three ships named the Loyal Merchant, all about 400 tons. The first sailed
from 1660 to 1687. The second from 1689-? and the third from 1699-1703. Our
1692 date must mean that this Andrew was in ship #2.
FYI, all researcher of Andrew CADDEL of Virginia/North Carolina: This Andrew
would be of the age to be the grandfather of our Andrew. But, Andrew, this could
fit into your Barbados lineage.
