I realize that this thread has been going on for years. I just recently have been
researching and was very fortunate to have some family who had some information that had
been passed on.
This is what I have: JAMES BANKS CADDELL traveled from IRELAND and was the first CADDELL
to locate in MOORE COUNTY, NC He and others settled Northwest of CARTHAGE POST OFFICE
between McCLENDON'S CREEK and RICHLAND CREEK, on OLD STAGE ROAD. He seems to have
headed this numerous family.
A deed, dated July 3, 1776 shows James purchased 150 acres of land from Thomas McClendon
Jr., for a sum of 80 pounds. Also he was given a grant of 200 acres dated May 24,1773. The
records also show, James deeded the parcel of land to John Carleton in 1771. In the
"abstracts of minutes of the Court shows a deed proved by James Caddell for William
Richardson and wife Elizabeth to Evan McSwine, january 28, 1773.
James Caddell was listed in 1751 military records (revolutionary War) as a foot soldier
from Craven County, NC. The muster roll, dated October 15, 1754, show a Pvt. James Caddell
listed on the active roll.
James Caddell was on the tax list and deeds for 1753, 1762, and 1764 in Craven County,
NC.
The first census, taken in Moore County in 1790, show James Caddell with a household of
fur males and two females. Two males under the age of sixteen. He married Catherine Black
of Craven County, NC about 1750. James was orn about 1730 and died about 1805. He was the
father of eight sons and one daughter.
My line goes James Banks Caddell, William Albert Caddell, Joeseph Caddell, Evander
Caddell. Lenora Caddell.
Couple of questions, The wives are the hardest to get info. Catherine Black, James Banks
wife and Elizabeth Hurley, William Alberts wife, also Catherine Dowdy, Josephs wife are
buried in OLD FRIENDSHIP CHURCH CEMETERY, MOORE COUNTY, NC.
If anyone has any thing that they might be able to add I would love to hear from you.
