I too live in Alab and did go out with cousins from one of John Calvin
Caddell's sisters that married into the Green family.
We found the
location of where the cemetery used to be. But there is nothing
there. The people that own the property had all the stones turned down
covered with plastic and then several feet of topsoil spread so it is now
their front yard and also a part of their drive way. We were so shocked
that they didn't even take photos of the stones!!
Anyway this is where supposedly Andrew and Jean are buried and John Calvin
and wife are buried. That is about all I know. There is likely some
references to old
cemeteries in some of the old funeral homes. Don't know. One time I
called the county sheriff to find a cemetery I was looking for outside
Tuscaloosa where the Doughty family are buried. Andrew Caddell married
Rhoda Doughty here in Alab and her parents and grandmother are buried in
Coker, AL. I did find their graves.
Sorry I can't really help more. I wish someone of us would eventually run
across a photo of the old graves or perhaps find an old timer that could
talk to us about it.

Earlene, I don't know if you know about our caddell list, but I am
forwarding your reply to them and you may want to join us in our search!! I,
like you, are very disappointed to hear that our ancestors are now below a
driveway! Thanks so much for writing me. More later, Ann (Caddell)

Rachel, I can't put my hand on it right now, but I have in my Aunt Lela's old
scrapbook a death notice on a Mary Caddell...I don't recall the name
Glasscock...I'll try to find it and will write you again. The name as I
recall only had one "l" on it and it was old and damaged..very hard to read.
I'll be putting up what I know about my family shortly.

Hello List:
On 2-6-2000 I sent ya'll the South Carolina Land Index which re: CADELL
etc.
I made an inquiry of the Archives Director as to the meaning of the
refernence, using the 1793 post as an example.
His response was:
"Dear Mr. Caddell,
The reference you sent (0009 008 0032 003 01) is a reference to a state
plat. The State of South Carolina granted David Coalter and James
Stewart
932 acres on Gidde Swamp in Orangeburgh District in 1793. This land was
originally surveyed for Frederick King, John Wickley, and Clevers D.
Wyld.
It would appear that they never took out a grant for this land, and
Coalter
and Stewart picked it up. John Cadel is listed because he is mentioned
somewhere on this plat, possibly as an adjoining landowner.
I hope this clears up the confusion.

Hello: My Caddell Connection comes thru my Grandmother on my mother's
family-Julia Mamie Caddell Sauter (1902-1967)
daughter of: Robert Lee and Nancy Bell Reavis Caddell (Texas Connection)
Robt Lee (Bob) is son of Andrew and Susan Boyd Caddell (Andrew/Susan
married in MS)
Andrew is son of Andrew and Rhoda Doughty Caddell (Andrew/Rhoda lived
in AL-moved to Texas)
Andrew is son of John Calvin and Mary Jay Caddell (reported to be
buried in AL)
John Calvin is son of Andrew and Jean Henderson Caddell (Reported to
also be buried in AL in St Clair County).
Like alot of the list I'm looking for the origins and birth of Andrew from
Scotland and have heard the story of how he "cast his lot to come to
America" as a young teenager and stow-a-way on the ship. Any connection
with cousins is appreciated. I have numerous photos I'm trying to identify
from 1880 thru 1920's. Anyone with an interest in this......and especially
of you have copies of old family photos that can be used to help verify
WHICH family (my grandmother's or my grandfather's family) or to validate
the CADDELL family is sought. Even if you can't identify who the people
are in your photos---if we happened to have photos of the same person we
may be able to learn more than you think. Thanks. Earlene Scott
I saw here back some one hunting for a James Banks Caddell from Ireland. I
have lost this person e-mail. If you are out there please e-mail me. I may
have some infromation for you.

Jim,
That's one of the longest Biblical names. It means "haste to the spoil,
speed to the prey". The name was to be a sign, a prophecy of the coming
of the king of Assyria that took the northern 10 tribes of Israel into
captivity.
Lots of old Biblical names in the genealogies I've done too.

Caddell Researchers,
Maybe you've heard this before but I hadn't, so I'll share it. Dale N.
Richardson mentioned one of his ancestors, Mahershalal Hashbaz Caddell.
I had seen that name before, since "Baz" Caddell lived in Alabama, as do
I and as did my Caddell ancestor, Mary "Polly", daughter of James Banks
Caddell.
A researcher on one of my other genealogical mailing lists was compiling
a list of unusual, unique, and obsolete given names. I submitted
several to her, this being one. Below is her explanation of where the
name came from.

Mahershalal Hashbaz!!!
What a crazy name! I am looking it up in the Bible!
It just has to be a Bible name!
Found it!!! It is really all one very long name that
they wisely cut into two. Interesting!! THANK YOU!
Kathleen
Isa 8:1 Moreover the LORD said unto me, Take thee a
great roll, and write in it with a man's pen
concerning Mahershalalhashbaz.
Isa 8:2 And I took unto me faithful witnesses to
record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of
Jeberechiah.
Isa 8:3 And I went unto the prophetess; and she
conceived, and bare a son. Then said the LORD to me,
Call his name Mahershalalhashbaz.
My CADLE ancestors seem rooted in Buckinghamshire, England in the 17 &
1800's. My ggg-grandfather, Richard CADLE, was baptised in Long Crendon,
Bucks on 9 October 1785. He apparently married "Sarah" about 1810 and had at
least 3 children (although they may have had 8 children or more).
The source which attributes 8 children to Richard and Sarah CADLE has told
me that Sarah's maiden name was WYATT. There is a marriage between Richard
CARDWELL and Sarah WYATT on 14 May 1810 in Long Crendon on the IGI but, so
far, I have not found a marriage for a Richard CADLE and Sarah Wyatt
anywhere.
At first I wondered whether this was a unique transcription error but I
found several other CARDWELL/CORDWELL entries in the Long Crendon listings
on the IGI as well as in Ashendon, Chesham, Great Linford & Woughton on the
Green.
Have other researchers with an interest in this area of the world
encountered this spelling being used for CADLE or are these truly two
different surnames? If so, it looks like I am back to square one in terms
of finding "my" Richard & Sarah CADLE's marriage.
Any help or suggestions welcome.

Hi Andy,
I've come across a few CADDELLs on an LDS
film of 16th & 17th century Irish pedigrees.
One was John CADDELL of the Novan (?) in the
Co. of Meath. . Another was Thomas CADDLE
of Herbartson, Co. Meath, son John, he had
son Robert. They were connected to Fitzgeralds.
Then there was John CADDELL of Caddelston, (2nd
son of Patrick CADDELL of the Nall,) son Patrick
of Caddelston, his son George now (1610) living
at Surgalston (?). Another was CADDLE of Morton.
Sorry - no Andrew yet sighted. :)

Hi,
I just signed on, and as there is a roll call,

PACK (d. 1758) of Ballynakill, Queen's Co.,
Ire., md. Jane CADDELL, "dau. & co-heir of Thomas CADDELL, Esq. of the

had a son, Samuel PACK, H.E.I.C.S., (b. 1757)

Most of that per Burke's Landed Gentry, and

Any leads to these CADDELLS, or to the other

My CADDELL is Martha Ann CADDELL :
Martha Ann b. 22 Feb 1818 AL, m. ca 1834 AL Lewis Martin ARMSTRONG
b. 1818 SC. Family tradition is that Martha Ann was "raised" by a HALL
family. HALL names in the Armstrong bible - Andrew b. 16 Oct 1822,
John b. 10 May 1824, Mary Ann b. 24 Apr 1825, Waman W.
b. 6 Jul 1829, Phebe Jane b. 26 Oct 1831, and Elizabeth B. b. 10 Dec 1835.
Lewis Martin and Martha Ann CADDELL ARMSTRONG moved to Pontotoc Co.
(near New Albany) MS ca 1852-1855. They then moved to Hardeman Co., TN,
shortly after the Civil War and that is where they lived until they died.
The children of Lewis Martin and Martha CADDELL ARMSTRONG:
1) John C. ARMSTRONG b. 6 Aug 1839 AL
m. 1858 Tippah Co., MS Margaret M. WILDMAN b. 1841.
The Wildman family appears to be from Blount Co., AL
2) George Washington ARMSTRONG b. 22 Oct 1841 AL
m. 1866 Tippah Co., MS Loucinda WILDMAN b. 1845 AL
(sister of Margaret)
3) Andrew Jackson ARMSTRONG b. 10 Oct 1843 AL
m. Martha Ann SWINDELL
4) Sarah Ann Elizabeth ARMSTRONG b. 30 Nov 1846 AL
5) Frances Jane ARMSTRONG b. 22 May 1849 AL
6) William Waman ARMSTRONG b. 20 Jul 1842 MS
7) Rufus Madison ARMSTRONG b. 5 Dec 1855 MS
8) Phebe Angeline ARMSTRONG b. 19 Sep 1857 MS
9) Lewis Green ARMSTRONG b. 2 Dec 1859 MS
The family that seems to closest to the one I'm searching for would be
John Calvin CADDELL of St. Clair Co., AL. There are allied families in
the ARMSTRONG family that came from Blount Co., AL to the same
area of MS as the Armstrong families.
Rough outline of children of John Calvin CADDELL and Mary JAY:
