Hello List:
I am reaching here so maybe some of you can help me. I am looking for
marriages in Tenn or KY between Hughes and Caddell families. I have a
Hughes family that came from Tenn (Greene and Campbell Cos.) into Whitley
County KY before moving on to northern Missouri. Throw a Smith into that
mixture and you have it. Hughes is really my line, but I know that these
three families originated in NC and migrated through the same routes. They
must have intermarried before Missouri. Look forward to the information
from the list. It is always good and sometimes it is pertinent to my
family and sometimes not. But, it is always informative. Thank you all so
much for the sharing.

grandson of James Banks CADDELL. Anyone have any comments or info that

Some of the family lived in Campbell, Cocke, Greene, and Washington
Cos., TN and Whitley Co., KY peior to moving to Missouri. Family
tradition says they came from Moore Co., NC. I assume Parson a probable
grandson of James Banks CADDELL. Anyone have any comments or info that
would link the family to Moore County?

Do we have any French Connections on the team?
Thomas Cadell (1787-1857) was the fourth son of John Cadell of Cockenzie
(Scotland). He emigrated with his family to Australia in 1832 to found
the Oz branch of the clan.
Prior to that, at the age of 16 he was a midshipman on the Lord Nelson
which was taken by the French privateer La Bellona on 27 August 1803. He
was captured and carried off to France where he was a prisoner of war in
Verdun until 1808. He was transferred to Valenciennes and held there
till 1812. Unfortunately the French Military archive has very little
data from these times.
If any one has any information relating to Thomas, or any other
Cad(d)ell imprisoned in France (he was not the only one) I would be very
grateful. Rumour has it that the Cadells in question were not averse to
Liaisions Dangereux!
Merci en anticipation de vos reponses,
Ian Cadell
Do any of you communicate with Wayne Lewis CADDELL of Oakgrove,
Missouri? I did regularily, but he dropped off the net, I guess,
several months back. He has done much research on the CADDELL, etc
family. We need him on the List. I've not received any response to my
several e-mails to him since last October. His e-mail was
"WayCadd(a)aol.com". I sent him an invite at the beginning of the list to
join but no response.

Jan,
Do you descend from William Caddell? I descend from his brother, Calvin
Barnes Caddell. I'm sorry I can't help you on the Joshua Moses Bible
record. I didn't know a Caddell family member had this Bible record. Do
you have a copy of the book on the Moses Family by Richard A. Moses?

I have just found the marriage of Ann CALDER and William ANDERSON in 1810 in
Barony, Scotland, and have ordered the OPR from the LDS.
However, I cannot seem to find Ann CALDER's birth/baptims. Does anyone have
an Ann CALDER in their line that may have been born around 1785 - 1790? Or
indeed any other CALDER's in the Barony/Lanark area?
Her father's name was probably William or James.

This line intermarried with my Moses line in Whitley County. Would like
to
talk with anyone who might have knowledge of the Bible belonging to
Joshua

of
whom immigrated to Whitley County, Kentucky. Supposedly the last time

CADDELL List:
I just received the following:
Searching for family of Jacob Earnest in Pendleton and formerly
Washington
District. He died 1804.
The earliest land records located in Pendleton District of South
Carolina
for the Caudill, Coddle, Caddell, Caudle, Cordell, family is found on
microfilm in the Anderson Public Library Anderson, South Carolina.
Annotated 21 January 1996 by William G Cordell 30420 Southfield Rd 97A
Southfield Michigan 48076.
5 March 1791; James Cunningham sold to Jacob Earnest Jr land for 1
Shilling
6 pence Coin for six acres lying on both sides of the South fork of
Brushy
Creek back waters of Saluda River Ninety Six District Pendleton County
and
is located southeast of the town of Pendleton. The original survey was
made
6 November 1786 upon a grant from the Governor William Moultrie. This
deed
was witnessed by Wm Fariss, Wm Hodge, and Thomas Earnest, son of Jacob
Earnest Senior before John Willson J.P.
27 August 1793; George Humphries of Pendleton County District of
Washington
sold to Jacob Earnest of the same place, land for ten pounds Sterling
Money
for Twenty acres located on the waters of the Lower South fork of Brushy
Creek , Waters of Saluda River. This was part of a tract granted to
Thomas
Lewis by Governor William Moultrie. " Personally appeared before me
Johnathon Moore and made oath agreeable to sale that he saw George
Humphries sign his name and acknowledge his seal as his act and deed for
the
case above Mentioned & sayeth that he saw John ( Hilson ) and Jesse
Kirby
sign this same as Subscribing Witnesses to the same Sworn to before me
the
Twenty second day of August 1793 ------ Wm Edmondson
W.D."
On the previous document William Edmondson identified himself as clerk
of
Washington District Court.
4 August 1794; John Norwood sold to Jacob Earnest Sen. for 5 Shillings
Current Money of the State aforesaid, 275 acres on 23 Mile Creek of the
back waters of Savannah River. Bazzel Hallum and John Pickins were
witnesses to the transaction. This same land is sold for 75 Pounds by
the
same parties on the same date. 23 April 1795 Is the date the witnesses
Bazzel Hallum and John Pickins memorialized these deeds before John
Willson
J.P. This property is likewise located southeast of the town of
Pendleton
tho the creek empties into a different river.
3 February 1797; Benjamin Ragsdale sold 25 acres to Thomas Caudell for
20
Pounds Sterling, land on 23 Mile Creek back waters of the Savannah
River.
It being part of a tract of land granted Ephraim Linsey by his
Excellency
Benjamin Jarrard Esq. Governor at that time, and recorded in grant Book
CCCC. page 298. Witnessed by Thomas Pilgrim, Jacob Earnest, and Michael
Pilgrim on 3 February 1797 and memorialized on 21 March 179 (9) before
John Willson, Justice.
10 April 1797; Jacob Earnest sold, 50 acres of his formerly purchased
275
acre parcel, to Thomas Caudell for 20 pounds, that property was on 23
Mile
Creek located south of Pendleton town. It is not known if this date was
before or after the marriage of Thomas to the daughter of Jacob Earnest.
Witnessed by James Jett, Charles Willson, and Alexander Glenn before
John
Willson J.P.
22 April 1797; Benjamin Worton sold land for forty pounds to James
Caddell
as witnessed by John Beazley and Obun Buffington before Joseph Rice J.P.
18 June 1803; Robert and William Norwood of Abbeville District sold 150
acres on 23 Mile Creek, water of the Savannah River, to Jacob Earnest of
Pendleton District for $200 as witnessed in Abbeville by James Wally.
( It
is not known if this is Jacob Earnest Jr or Sr but Senior died 5
November
1803, as evidenced by a will. Caution is also needed in reading these
land
sales because there was a Samuel Norwood, later a John Norwood and even
later Robert and William Norwood together selling land).
24 November 1804; Ledwick Earnest bought 150 1/2 acres from David Hughs
for
100 pounds. Witnessed by John Hamilton and William Hobbs. This is
described as, "Tract of land whereon I now live." Ledwick or Lodwick
was
the son of Jacob Earnest according to the will of Jacob Earnest dated 5
November 1803.
The filmed records are difficult to read for they are at this time two
hundred and two years old. In appears to be a contentious time or
cautious
people as attested by the double writing of the 1794 deeds. There may
have
been crops unharvested in the fields in August 1794 or some other
problem of
trespass. The repetition of so many words like "ways water, water
course,
paths, passages, ponds, lakes, swamps, gardens, orchards , buildings,
edifies, improvements, profits, commodative advantages, appurtenances,
commodities appears to be overstatement in some of these documents.
The
South Carolina land claims did not become "shingled" with duplicate
claims
as in Kentucky.

I am researching the CADLE family. In particular I am looking for
information on Nancy CADLE GOINS. Available documents show show she
was born around 1838-1839 in Claiborne Co., TN.
However, in a 1870 Census for Bell Co., KY she is listed as being 35.
She is listed with who I believe is her mother, Susana. The census
record states Susana CADLE was 64 years old, born in VA to a foreign
born father. In another copy of the census, it lists the mother(?) as
Susan C.E.
Unknown who Nancy's father was, or if there were any siblings. Know
Nancy lived in TN, KY, and IL (based on a variety of sources of
information).
Don't know if any information is out there on a Susana or Susan -
poss. born in 1806 in VA to, at least, a foreign born father...
Any possibles suggestions to follow up would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks - Jenene
