I've "rescued" an old photograph of Velma BRIGGS of Hanover, Massachusetts
which was taken at the Metcalf & Welldon Studio in Boston, MA. The
photograph is dated 1876 with Velma likely a teenager at the time it was
taken. Based on limited research and thanks to the assistance of a BRIGGS
Family Researcher I've found the following information regarding Velma and
her family:
Velma BRIGGS b. 20 Oct 1861 in Boston, MA to parents Lloyd BRIGGS and Sarah
Elizabeth Elms KENT. It appears that Velma never married, in 1930 she was
living in Boston and died 8 Jun 1937. Velma's brother Lloyd Vernon BRIGGS
was b. 1863 in Hanover, MA and became a physician with a private practice in
Boston and married Mary Tileston CABOT and together they had three children,
including a son Lloyd Cabot BRIGGS b. 1909. Lloyd Cabot BRIGGS was a
published anthropologist with a focus on Northern Africa, he died in 1975.
Census records provide the following information:
1870 census of Hanson, MA:
Lloyd BRIGGS, age 40, a Notary Public, born MA
Sarah E. E. BRIGGS, age 35, Keeping House, born MA
Harriette I. BRIGGS, age 10, Attending School, born MA
Velma BRIGGS, age 8, Attending School, born MA
Lloyd V. BRIGGS, age 6, Attending School, born MA
Ellen BANNICISO, age 14, Domestic Servant, born MA
1880 census of Hanover, MA:
Lloyd BRIGGS, age 50, born MA, a Notary Public, parents born MA
Sarah E. BRIGGS, wife, age 45, born MA, Keeping House, parents born MA
Velma BRIGGS, dau, age 18, born MA
Lloyd V. BRIGGS, son, age 16, born MA, at School
I am hoping to locate someone from Velma's family so that this beautiful old
photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a
member of this family, or if you know someone who might be, please contact
me.
Thanks,
Shelley
