Hello Hugh. I have not come across any SMOCKs in researching my CABLEs but
these coincidences are worth investigating. The book, The History of Watauga
Co., North Carolina (John Preston Arthur) briefly mentions a Nannie Wilkerson
who married a William Ebenezer Dugger who was the son of a William Dugger and
his wife, Unice Monday. Watauga County, N.C. is adjacent to Johnson Co.,
Tennessee. Many of the North Texas CABLEs seem to originate from these two
counties.
I can confirm that Casper T. Cable and Lusinda/Lucinda Hamby's family moved
to this area from Watauga Co., NC to North Texas before 1880. Illinois Bend
is not far from St. Jo where they settled in 12/1881, but I haven't found the
connection between the Casper T.'s family and this Allen Cable. Casper T.
and Lucinda had a son named Joseph Allen, so perhaps they knew each other.
Definitely worth exploring.
I have to correct an error I reported on the informant: M. L. Beard was from
Port Aransas, TX. I question how correct the certificate was because Eula
Ann was reported as a CABLE and a widow but her father was a CABLE. I've got
two first cousin CABLEs who married each other in my line (they were from
Tennessee also), so it is entirely possible she also a CABLE by birth as well
as marriage.

<<In the 1850 USC IL Hardin Co. there is a Lydia CABLE, age 45, TN (= b.
c1805), and John CABLE, 12. listed in the family of Alfred SMOCK, 40, in
addition to his wife, Sarah (Wilkerson), and children. Who is Lydia? My
interest was heightened when the name Casper CABLE was mentioned. It seems
that there was a Casper SMOCK, probably a brother of Albert SMOCK, but
unproved. The SMOCK family came out of PA to KY and then on to IL. CABLE
surname appears in IL in 1850 apparently from TN as stated.
Eula Ann CABLE, b. 1841 TN, died a widow, but of whom? Who was Casper CABLE?
Is there a connection?
Best regards,
Hugh>>
