I am a descendant from Daniel Webster Cable, a son of Calvin Cable. Daniel Webster
married Mary Ann Street of Buladean, North Carolina. They had 6 children together.
Dayton, Polly, Goldia, Nancy, Cameron, and Hattie. My mother, Hattie Cable was a daughter
of Daniel Webster Cable, she married Charles W. Ellison, Sr. My mom and Dad have passed
away. I can send you some information regarding this family. My grandfather was a stone
mason. He was famous for his chimney. He also was famous for the Cable fireplace, which
I think had two sides. I'm told his work is all through out North Carolina and TN.
He also liked to play the fiddle, (and I heard his moon shine too) he would build a
chimney and when they would finish he would play his fiddle, I guess along with other
musicians, and have what mom called a hoe down. One time, when they lit ta fire he
chimney smoked, someone had put a shingle accross the top. He knew right away something
had happened. When growing u!
p, I would hear many stories about him. One is, he was builing a log cabin after his
first wife had died, my grandmother MaryAnn walked by and he looked at her and said, told
her, "I'm building you a house." This is before he had ever asked her to
marry him. Mom said he would go away to build a chimney or other some other stone work,
and when he would come back he would play the fiddle and tell mom to, "Dance little
Hattie dance!" Much to Mary Ann';s dismay, as she was a strict Baptist. Web
Cable, as he was known, died when mom was 11 years old. I'm so glad to hear from one
of Calvin's side of the Cable. They just had the Cable reunion last week. I hope one
of these day to go.
