I thought I'd post my CABLE interests. I'm descended from the CABLE family
of Forfar, Angus, Scotland, and my line of descent (in an unfortunately
large nutshell!) is:
Alexander KEBEL (poss born 22 Dec 1720, Forfar, Angus, son of Thomas KEBEL)
married Elizabeth SCOTT, 11 Aug 1750, Forfar, Angus.
Their son, John CABLE (born 12 Oct 1755, Willenyards, nr Craignathro,
Forfar, Angus; died 12 Nov 1831, Forfar, Angus) married Agnes DUNCAN, 18 Jul
1778, Forfar, Angus.
John CABLE and Agnes DUNCAN had at least ten children, including Joseph
CABLE, bap 6 Sep 1795, Forfar, Angus; died 18 Mar 1860, Turfbeg, Forfar,
Angus. Joseph CABLE was a Farmer, and married Isabel MILNE (bap 20 May
1787, Forfar, Angus; died 7 May 1863, North Street, Forfar, Angus) on 26 Jun
1818, Rescobie, Angus.
Joseph CABLE and Isabel MILNE had at least three children, including Charles
CABLE, bap 17 Sep 1820, Rescobie, Angus.
Charles CABLE was a nightmare to research, having been married three (maybe
four) times, and having moved from Scotland to England, changed jobs, etc
etc! ;-) I am descended from his first child - Alexander Milne CABLE, who
was bap 10 Jun 1839 at Forfar, Angus. Alexander's mother was said to have
been an Ann CABLE, maiden surname WILSON, but I believe that Ann and Charles
were never married and that Alexander Milne CABLE was illegitimate. In
1841, Alexander was living with his grandparents, Joseph and Isabel CABLE,
and I've never been able to trace Ann WILSON.
Alexander Milne CABLE worked as a Mechanic Journeyman at a Flax Spinning
mill, and he married Agnes Farquhar PATERSON on 19 Mar 1859, Hatton Mill,
Kinnell, Angus. Alexander and Agnes had at least four children, all born at
Dundee: Elizabeth Farquhar CABLE, b. 1863; Agnes CABLE, b. 1865; Charles
CABLE, b. 1869; Barbara Kelman CABLE, b. 1871. The latter was my great
grandmother - Barbara Kelman CABLE married John McGregor TOSH on 22 Jul 1895
at Lochee, Dundee, Angus.
After his son Alexander Milne CABLE was born, Charles CABLE married Betty
COOK (born 24 Apr 1826, Forfar, Angus) on 11 Jun 1848 at Forfar, Angus.
Charles CABLE and Betty COOK had at least eleven children:
1. Ann Mann CABLE, born 6 Jun 1849, Forfar, Angus. Married Walter ROOKSBY,
1871, East Grinstead District.
2. Jean CABLE, born 27 Nov 1850, Forfar, Angus.
3. Betty CABLE, born 28 Nov 1852, Forfar, Angus. Married John Henry
GILBERT, 20 Apr 1875, St John, Crowborough, Sussex.
4. Isabella CABLE, born circa 1854, Middlesex.
5. Margaret CABLE, born 25 Dec 1855, Forfar, Angus. Died 1881, Tunbridge
District. Never married.
6. Agnes CABLE, born 16 Mar 1858, Forfar, Angus. Worked as a hospital
nurse. Never married?
7. Mary Ellen CABLE, born 1860, Crowborough, Sussex. Married George
TAYLOR, 1888, Hackney District.
8. Emma CABLE, born 1862, Crowborough, Sussex. Married Henry John BRISTOW,
1893, Guildford District.
9. Frances CABLE, born 1864, Crowborough, Sussex. May have died before
1871.
10. Charles William CABLE, born 1865, Withyham, Sussex. Married Martha
Kezia MEAD, 1886, Camberwell District, London.
11. Alice Bertha CABLE, born 1868, Withyham, Sussex. May have died before
1871.
After Betty COOK died in 1869, Charles CABLE married for a third time, to
Isabella GOWANS, on 20 Jul 1871 at Withyham, Sussex. Isabella appears to
have died soon after, because Charles CABLE married for a fourth time, to
Mary Ann VIGOR, on 15 Jul 1874. Charles CABLE and Mary Ann VIGOR had at
least two children:
1. Joseph CABLE, born 1875, Crowborough, Sussex. Married Jane Florence
MASTERS, 1899, St Saviour Southwark District.
2. Kate CABLE, born 1877, Crowborough, Sussex.
Charles CABLE died in 1898 in Tunbridge District, Kent, presumably of
exhaustion! ;-)
If anyone connects to the above, I'd love to hear from them - and I'm always
happy to share data.
Best wishes,
Sue
