Subject: Re: [TNCarter] OAKES
Okay, here is my diliemma on Hicks. I hate responding without
going back through
the notes, but if I did, I'd never respond. I have "Big
Sammy" back there
somewhere. Have TWO (not one but two) ggrandmothers named
Hicks. Here's the
problem. Emmaline (or however you choose to spell it) Hicks m.
John Jackson
Cable. Their daughter Mary Eliabeth m. Taylor James Clawson.
Charlotte Hick m.
William Clawson. They were the parents of, that's right,
Taylor James Clawson.
(and yes, I can provide dates, they're just not right in front
of me, and I hate
to dig through the paper files, much less family treemaker.)
Now, some
researchers show Emmaline as the daughter of David Hicks and
Emily Holtsclaw.
Others show her parents and David and Elizabeth Hicks.
Charlotte is show as the
daughter of David and Elizabeth Hicks. Family members (and
some are quite old I
might add) swear that Emmaline and Charlotte were sisters and
that Taylor and Mary
Cable Clawson (my ggrandparents) were first cousins.
Information I have seen on
death certificates tends to support this theory despite
different spellings and
nicknames. However, I have seen other research that shows
Emmaline m. a Mast, but
I've only been able to connect a male Mast to the Cable
family. Any comments,
input, I have no clue what I'm talking about? would be most
appreciated. By the
way, the aunt that was an Oaks was an aunt by marriage and I
have no idea of her
background, although I guess I could ask.
