The name "Cable" was the 'anglicized' version of the German
Gobel (not spelled the same way as the horrible man who was a member of Hitler's inner
group). Anyway, the first to come was 19-yr.-old Kaspar(later Casper)Cable; he came over
as a Hessian soldier in 1775, fighting for Britain against the Colonists. Like many
others, he was captured at Trenton on Christmas Eve of that year. Those Hessian soldiers
saw that they were fighting their own countrymen, in many cases, and so he and his friend
changed sides and fought for the Colonists. At the end of the war he got a land grant in
NC, married Elizabeth Baker in Randolph County; they moved around a time or two, and the
lines of the counties as well as NC and TN state lines changed during those years; but
they decided to come across the mountains near Boone, NC, and he got another land grant in
TN, settling in what was then Carter County, is now Johnson County, TN. They had a large
family, and a few of them came on down to Blount County, TN as adults, and were among the
first pionee!
rs in Cades Cove in the Smoky Mtns. I live in that county now, and have dozens of
cousins!!
Could you tell me the birth dates of Albert and Amy?
Thanks again,
Barbara
