Hello Abraham Researchers......
I also have an Abraham CABLE/COBLE/KOBEL
14 Aug 1791 - 5 Oct 1865
Abraham lived in Franklin Co. PA., migrated to Ashland Co. Ohio by the 1840
census and died in Elkhart Co., IND.
Abraham married Christina UNKNOWN (1799-1871) and had eleven children. I
have the children's names and their spouses if anyone would like further
information on this line.
I am searching for Abrahams' father, possibly also named Abraham. Anyone
researching the PA. CABLE, COBLE, KOBEL families?
Thank you,
Jean
COBLE and KOBEL list moderator
Dear Carol:
My husband's great grandfather was Abraham Cable and so was his father.
Our Cable's came from PA and moved to Randolph County MO before 1880.
Abraham was 33 years old in 1880 cenus and his wife Carry was 32. He was a
coal miner. We know great grandaddy Abraham had a son named Abraham but was
called Abe. Abe settled in Springfield, IL, Some of the family stayed in
Randolph County but I know two of the girls went to St. Louis. My husband's
grandfather, Ace Cable, stayed in Randoph County MO. I know there were
several generations of Cable's named Abraham.
You may have some information that ties in with our family. I have a Cable
file whenever I can find it.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Christine Cable
Hi,
I recently joined the Cable list and Rosemary Miller asked me to post my
Cables.
I am descended from Abraham Cable (1729-1805) who fought in the Revolutionary
War. His great-granddaughter was Mary Cable (1806-1871) who married Daniel
Flora (1805-1854). They were my 2nd great grandparents.
I have lots of information that I have gathered on the Cable family but have
done very little to verify this family. I would be interested in
corresponding and sharing information with anyone related to these Cables.

Well with the last couple of messages that I have seen, It
reminds me
that
mistakes are made, un intentionally, but in the thrill of the
chase.
When we
add data to our files it needs to at least make sense since we
are
relying
on the work of others to be correct. It also reminds me that
when we ask
a
question that we try to give as much information as we have,
especially
dates.
A question was asked about "Elizabeth", born 1812, daughter of
John
Peter
and Catherine Altman. I started to add the information that
she married
James Milton, etc. Apparently I was confused in reading the
data but
somehow
I had Elizabeth in her 60's when she started adding
children..so I
backed
out the information until I can get a clarification. Call me
stupid, but
Im
remain unsure as to the data. Im sure it may be very well
correct, I
just
can't understand it.
In that same post, there was a marriage to a Joseph G. Smail.
Not the
first
marriage to an Altman. In many cases neighbors married
neighbors
blending
both families several times if not more. One other "Smail" was
Della May
Smail, b. 1879, d. 1955 who married Ernest Hubert Henry,b. May
27, 1872,
died 1958, at the Lutheran Parsonage, Indiana County, Pa. on
April 22,
1897.
Ernest was the son of Benjamin F. Henry and Susannah A.
Altman. Susannah
the
child of Phillip Altman and Elizabeth Rice. Phillip the son of
John
Jacob
Altman and Margaret "Marjorie" Cable.
There was a post in disagreement about Adam Altman. I
encourage
disagreements if they prove to find fault with known data.
Many times an
actual family member from that particular line takes
"Ownership" of that
line giving it special attention which is the way it is
supposed to be..
Great! As is the case with This Adam, I believe a generation
was missed
somehow. Because the data I represented came from "Someone"
and the
dates
appeared to make logical sense. The disagreeing party presents
similiar
information with much different dates. The other concern is
that it
represents a "Altman" family that was still having children in
Germany
in
1851. This can not be from the same line that migrated to
America in
1749
aboard the Phoenix. As far as I know, I don't have any
Altman's into
Ontario, Canada (I am assuming that ON means Ontario?) Later
in the line
it
comes to Michigan and I know there were Altman's there. Anyway
this line
is
not from the Pennsylvania Altman's where my line is some 50
years
earlier..so something is screwed up ..somewhere. If any one
can clarify
this..great. I have deleted my information about Adam's wives
and
children
and backed the data back to the tree presented by Jim
Sherlock, a
recogonized expert.
Again, the only checks and balances any of us has in this
endeavor is
actual
hard documents or the trusted work of others. It is good to
point out
differences of opinion and we must all strive to correct our
mistakes.
Happy Saturday!
May your days be filled with love and laughter!

JULIA ELIZABETH SHOTWELL
Born January 21, 1840; died February 6, 1919; that tells the
length of
time that Mrs. John W. Shotwell abided on earth as a blessing

a help to all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance.
Her death was due to a stroke of paralysis. She had lived in
Richmond since

she was
a daughter of the late Rev. Joseph Devlin and wife Sarah
(Cable) Devlin.
Rev. Devlin was among the first ministers to preach the gospel

On the 14th day of February 1861, she was married to Mr. John

a prominent lawyer, and to them seven children were born. The
six who survive

Subject: Re: [LEDFORD-L] CD
Hello Everyone,
Hmmmm, must have missed a email or two. Not much has been
really chatted
about the CD on the list. What I am trying to gather togather
and place
on a CD is anything we can get our little hands on. I haven't
been really
talking much about it since it got a small response in the
past. But I
have been slowly working on it. I would like to make it
readable for
everyone, so most of the files are in plain text based (.TXT)
type files.
And hopefully it will be available at cost to everyone, (the
cost of the
actual CD and shipping and packaging costs), I am a firm
believer in
making this project a low cost as possible.
Just a few days ago, I was in contact with Francis Bogy, who
wrote the
book called "A Curtis Genealogy". She has given me permission
to scan in
her whole Book, 400 pages adn place it on the CD. This was a
big plus for
us.
*************************************************************************
*
1. What I have gathered along the way so far, besides the main
Ledford
Family Tree Maker file I keep for
everyone, which I will also have on the CD along with a
GeDCom file
of the same file, will be the
following:
2. 1997-July 2000 All the Ledford-L emails that were sent on
the list,
both as individual messages and
combined into both yearly and one huge text file to make
it easy to
search.
3. I do have the Nathan Browder book "The Cherokee and those
who came
after" scanned in, but I DO
NOT have permission to include it yet. Any one know how to
contact
his family to do this, please let me
know, since I beleive Nathan passed away a few years ago.
4. I do have the Edward Peele Williams book "Amos and Rachel
Webb
McCurry" book scanned in, like the
Browder book I have just started looking to find Edward. I
placed a
query on the McCurry-L list to see if
anyone there could help.
5. I have all of the Ledford Letters the JoAnn Assal has
published to
date as text files, and she gave
permission to include them. And has mentioned that she
will try and
complete the last two that will finish
her volumes with those newsletters.
6. What copies of the very old "Westward the Families I have
found, I
have scanned also. If anyone has any
of these old newsletters PLEASE contact me. My copies are
not the
greatest, plus I seem to be both
missing pages and issues of these newsletters.
7. With the LDS files, I have a major list of the Ledford's
that are
included in the Ancestral Files, and I have a
smalled version that as we find a connection of the
Ledfords in that
list I delete from it so it will be easier to
see what lines there we need to work on.
8. I have a photocopy of the Cabe book called "The Genealogy
of 1500
Descendents of Amos, Samual,
Stephen, and Zachariah Cabe (McCabe). I do not have this
scanned in
and I do not have permission as of
this time to include it on the CD.
9. I have a photocopy now of the book "Casper Cable and
Descendants
1755-1990". I do not have this
scanned in and I do not have permission as of this time to
include it
on the CD.
10. I have a photocopy now of the book "Our never ending
story", it some
Ledford's in it. I do not have this
scanned in and I do not have permission as of this time
to include
it on the CD.
So you see where I am at now. I get some work done on all this
while I am
at work. At home things tend to get in the way alot. Anything
else that
you would like to share to place on the CD, such as photos,
books,
letters, etc. please let me know.

Subject: [HONEYCUTT-L] Barren Co. KY Honeycutts
Well, here I am in Glasgow, Barren County, KY, poised to hit
the local history room of the
library tomorrow. In the 1900 census for Barren County,
William B. Honeycutt and his wife Mary
(Cable) Honeycutt were listed as living with their daughter
and son-in-law, J.R. Dickerson and
his wife Bettie (short for Sarah Elizabeth, probably because
she was raised in the same house
with her grandmother, also Sarah), and children Jewell and HG.
Mary Cable Honeycutt, our great great grandmother, had at
least one brother, Francis Marion,
who lived until 1921. His obit listed his death as sudden and
confirmed that he had fought for
the Union. He was survived by his second wife (no name given)
and what the article referred to
as some "half brothers and sisters," but had to be his nieces
and nephews: Mrs. Will Dosey of
Cave City (which is Barren County), Mrs. Dovie Young (nickname
of Dorthula) of Bristletown, Mr.
J.J. Honeycutt of Louisville and Steve Honeycutt of
California. "Steve" is my great
grandfather, who, according to both my father and grandfather,
hated his given name and was
usually called simply A.S.
The hunt for Cables led me to books on Washington County, TN.
Apparently another of Marys
brothers was one Jefferson Cable, who died in 1891. Named in
his will were: John S., Nancy J.
Duncan, Mary E. Cable, Augusta S. Sartain, William F. Cable,
Sarah C. Cable, Hiram B. Cable,
Joseph, Ann and Louisa Ann. WITNESSES for the will were
William J. and William B. Honeycutt.
(William J. was the first born son of William B. and Mary
Cable Honeycutt. Their youngest son
was Hiram.)
Francis Marion Cable was listed as having lived between Etoile
and Freedom in Barren County and
having been a member of the Memorial Baptist Church. Neither
of the two hamlets nor the church
are now listed in the local phone book.
It may be that our great great great grandmother Sarah
Honeycutts maiden name was ENSOR. The
will of William T. Ensor, filed in December 1847 in Washington
County, TN, listed survivors as
his wife Martha and children Sarah Honeycutt, Martha
Cunningham, William B. Ensor Jr., Thomas
P. Ensor and a grandson, George Ensor.
Tomorrow Im going to see if I can turn up anything further on
Honeycutts, Cables, Ensors and
any other related families. If any of you can think of any
other info that might help, please
let me know. I will happily share whatever I pick up on the
line of William Burton Honeycutt
(1830 NC or TN - sometime after 1900). Sandy

with wife Ida Young born 1887 to Edwin Young & Caroline
Frishkorn had a
son Ralph Cable who married Thelma Minehart.
I do know that Ralph's father & brother owned a sawmill in the
Harmony
area. Did find a Robert Cable born 1927 & a Carl Cable born
1918 died 1995
Harmony, PA. that are sons of Harrison & Ida Cable. If
Harrison is not
Ralph's father is there someone that knows who his father is?
Thanks,
Gloria Weiss
