My GGrandfather, Marcus Sylvester CABINESS, son of John W. CABINESS and
Mary Moore McDONALD was born in Rockford, Coosa County, AL, Nov. 20, 1843
and died in Barnard's Mill Nov. 12, 1873 He was shot in a grocery store
there by a man named L. M. Ballou. He served in the Confererate army from
AL. He came with his widowed mother and most of her grown children to this
area about 1868. He had a McDonald uncle living in Hood Co. at that time.
Shortly after arriving he married Martha Tabitha "Minnie" WELLS in
Bonham, Fannin Co.,TX and they had two daughters, Mattie Cordelia and
Sellie Belle.
My grandmother, Mattie Cordelia married Sam Houston JENKINS in Cleburne
Dec. 28, 1897. Sellie Belle md. Tom Hodges in Paris, TX. Their mother
married (2) John Mitch Hancock and they had two children. She died about
1883.
We have never been able to locate the burial place for M.S. or Minnie
Cabiness. Although, his mother and his sister, Cordelia BAIRD, and their
daughter, Mattie Cabiness Jenkins are all buried in the Cleburne, TX,
cemetery.
