I am not sure how many of you folks who spell their name with a "b" are
interested .I found this on an Allen site, some of you may or may not know that Henry
Cavinis the reportedly oldest son of Henri Cabanis is reported in the book writtten by
Alloa Caviness anderson as marrying one Jane Allen .This book makes the statement that
when the will of William Allen was written it identifies his daughter Jane as ,Jane now
Cavinis.Since this will was written about 1731 .The author made the claim that Henry and
Jane must have married about 1725.The author went on to state that she felt Henry must
have had more than one wife since the children attributed to him were born from 1738
through 1758 .the last two would have been to young to have been the children of a woman
who was born about 1700 .There was never any evidence of a second wife.Stumbling on thi s
article it all began to make sense .
TYLER'S QUARTERLY, Vol. 19, #2, October 1937
p.110/111 **** Will of William Allen of Elizabeth City County, 1731 - wife Elinor, negro
woman Sue; ½ lot of land in Hampton to two sons, John and Anthony; rest of estate equally
divided between all children - Anthony Elizabeth, Sarah, Thomas and Anne Allen - all not
of age; dau. Mary Henry; dau. Anne Allen; dau. Jane Allen - not of age. William, Henry and
wife co-executors. Henry did not marry Jane until sometime before 1744 when the will was
probated ,this is when Jane is identified as Jane now Cavinis. Given thi s newer age she
is perfect age to have been Henrys wife and the mother to all of his children . There
would be no need to bend the records to fit the facts .We really do no know how old
Henry(the son )was when he arrived ,he could have been born much closer in age to Matthew
and George.Just perhaps pat perkins
